"So is this the arts and crafts project you put together with those freaks?" Drew snidely asked.

Jake had been doing last touches on his car before his match, checking to make sure everything was working well. He hadn't even realized that Drew was behind him until he spoke up.

Why Drew kept approaching Jake? He didn't know. It was probably to taunt him.

"Don't call them that," Jake immediately responded, his back turned to Drew while he stretched the duct tape, ripping it off with his teeth and wrapping it around the stick. "Plus, not to mention, you do the same design for every car." He added on, grabbing the stick and pulling lightly to see if it was secured on.

"At least mine looks good every time." Drew retorted back. Jake rolled his eyes although he couldn't see.

Finally he turned around to look at Drew. His hair was smooth and his appearance was neat. He was wearing a sharp leather jacket and his helmet was tucked under his arm. Jake felt whatever he was going to say get caught in his throat. Whenever he really got close to Drew, he was normally more angry and couldn't focus too much on his looks. He wish he never did have the chance to focus on them. His face grew hot.

Drew eyed him up and down, making sure it was obvious he was doing so. "You use that coffee shop card yet?" He egged on when Jake didn't say anything.

"Yeah sure, me and all the 'freaks' went and got something with it." He replied nonchalantly. It was a lie, he hadn't actually gone and used it, but he wanted to keep Drew going.

Drew gazed at him with furrowed brows, and for a moment Jake wondered if he was going to respond. His eyes made Jake tense under his critical gaze. It was silent for a long moment, despite the growl of engines and the sound of people talking.

"Don't be upset when I beat you out there." Was simply all he said in response, completely ignoring the topic of conversation.

He shoved his helmet over his head, walking off towards his car which was a decent amount away. Jake watched him walk away, a bit confused by the interaction.

The audience was extra loud tonight, probably because it was the first match of the night. The sun was just about to start setting, so it was pretty bright out still. The water truck sprayed down the arena, and Jake honestly wished he was in the first match of every demo derby he played in. It seemed like it always had the most hyped up crowd, along with the best muddy arena that his tires got easy traction to.

The bleachers were full, and the sidelines had a lot of the other drivers in it, watching the match and waiting for their turn. Jake noticed Zander and Milly in there too.

He pulled out onto the field, parking his car besides Hailey's. It was a coincidence that they pulled in after eachother considering a ref was the one who directed cars out into the arena. He gave her a wave and she returned it eagerly.

He put his hand down and gripped tightly onto the steering wheel, his other hand on the shifter. His foot holding down on the breaks, ready to floor the gas pedal as soon as he hears the horn.

He had already seen the plum colored car with it's adorning CHAOS mark on it when he pulled into the arena, and he was determined to wipe the smile off of Drew's face. His grip on the steering wheel tightened.

He heard the blowhorn cut over the sound of the stalled engines and the growl of cars was loud. He glanced over his shoulder, reversing out fast. Immediately cars were going after eachother, loud bangs as they slammed into one another. He spotted the plum car cornered and he immediately switched gears, pushing the shift forwards as he slammed onto the gas pedal. His tires sprayed mud out from underneath them as he advanced onto Drew.
