Drew had just started to participate in the demo derbies his dad ran. He had done a couple before, in past summers few and far between, but this summer he had nothing better to do and his competitive drive was boosted after a certain blond made his way into Drew's life. A lot of people thought he was a new driver, but he just didn't participate enough for anyone to notice him before.
He was in his bright truck, pipes running down the hood, the first match of the season for him. It had been well over a year since his last match, so he was a little rusty, but he still had experience from taking his dad's cars in the middle of the night to go on joyrides with his friends and whip donuts in parking lots.
Drew had went after the car closest to him, naturally trying to do as much damage as possible. His truck had an advantage on him, and without thinking too hard about it, he started to accelerate at him head on. The guy in the car looked hectic, and before Drew could really stop to remember the rules, He made impact with him. His truck was lowriding, and so it did enough damage but nothing that'd be too fatal. A big cloud of white smoke engulfed the car in the span of less than a second.
Lost in the adrenaline of the match, he wound up again on the car. He slammed hard on the gas pedal, driving towards him fast. The guy reached out and broke his stick. He continued coming towards him for a second longer before swerving. He could've moved the wheel earlier, but he felt like being an asshole. His truck scraped the side of his car, a loud and unpleasant screech of metal ringing in his ears.
After he had taken out the last car, a deep navy blue, he felt way too proud of himself. He was rusty and he still won. He had realized that he broke some rules, but Henry and Liam didn't call anything so he was sure he got away with it. He knew that those idiots wouldn't go against him, since their job depended on his dad.
Despite the competitiveness during the match, and the tension, the girl held out her hand to him. It was a really common thing to shake hands after matches, and to be honest it was probably way more uncommon to not.
With a cockly smile under his helmet, he looked her up and down before walking off. He had seen her before, and she was pretty good at derbies. The thought that he had beaten her so easily got to his head as he got back into his truck, pulling out of the arena.
When the blond had come up to him that night, calling him out on his obvious rule breaking, why wouldn't he be a dick? Who did this guy think he was, standing up to him despite his dad owning the place?
He won't admit how later he had looked at the match line-ups to find out his name.
It wasn't anyones business if Drew had asked his dad to put him and Jake up against eachother again. It wasn't pure coincidence that they would share the same matches.
The next match he was confident in himself, knowing that he had won the last and taken out Jake easily enough, why would this one be any different?
They both had the same idea, going after eachother from the start. Except this time, an annoying purple car kept ramming into him. He felt himself grow more frustrated as his body was jerked around whenever he would get hit.
After Jake got a particularly hard hit on him, his tires spinning uselessly and smoke leaking from his engine, he already knew that he was fucked. The ref gained his attention, motioning for him to break his stick. That got Drew even more pissed. He snapped it off with way more force than necessary and threw it to the muddy ground.
He slammed his fists down on the steering wheel, making quite the show to anyone watching. He was fuming under his helmet as he had to sit in his destroyed car and wait for the match to end. He will admit that it made him feel slightly better watching Jake break his own stick later on.
