The rest of the week went by in a blur, and my senior year was over, except for prom. I was really excited for college and the summer. Today was Saturday, it was about 6:00 in the morning. I had to get up early so I could help Shawn prepare for the party. I got out of bed and stood in front of my closet. I had to look good for the party tonight. I finally decided on a pair of high-waisted black shorts and a lime green flowy top tucked in. After I got dressed, I walked into the bathroom and brushed my teeth, washed my face and did my makeup. My hair was tied up in a high ponytail and I curled some random pieces to make it look messy. When I was done, I skipped downstairs for a quick breakfast, then over to Shawn's. My mom was still getting ready upstairs, since it was only 6:30. I grabbed an apple and slipped on my black flip-flops. As I was walking over to Shawn's, the sun was coming up. I wonder if Shawn ever asked Aubrey to prom. Our prom is tonight, and the party is after. I really can't wait, I'm so excited! I haven't told anybody what my dress looks like, except for my mom and sister. Not even Shawn. Especially not Shawn. He's already probably going with Aubrey. I walked up his driveway and walked in. I haven't knocked on his door since 5th grade. I stomped up the stairs. I knew this house like the back of my hand. Shawn was in his bedroom, still in his t-shirt and sweatpants. His hair was a mess, and he was barefoot. I laughed and covered my mouth.

"Hey, are you ready?"

He grinned and shook his head slightly. "Not even close."

I barged in laughing, and stood next to him. He was standing in front of his closet, trying to pick an outfit.

"It's not that hard for guys to pick out an outfit. A shirt, shorts and shoes. What's taking you so long?"

He shrugged and went over to his closet, picking out my favorite t-shirt of his, a blue and black one that I got him for his sixteenth birthday. He picked up a pair of shorts and smiled at me.

"I'll be right back."

He walked out to the bathroom across the hall and I walked downstairs to talk to his mom. She was making breakfast in the kitchen.

"Hey, Mrs. Mendes."

She turned and hugged me, replying, "It's so good to see you! Are you all ready for today? I can't wait to see your dress and to get pictures of you and Shawn together."

I was confused. "Mrs. Mendes, Shawn and I aren't going to prom together. He's going with Aubrey Debre. He was going to ask her this week."

She gave me a look, telling me she was as confused as I was. "What? He said he was going with you."

Oh. Well now. "Maybe he meant only as a friend. He is like that, you know."

She turned to the stairs. "Well, go ask him. He'll sort this out for you, I know it."

I nodded, "Thank you. I'll go talk to him."

I walked up the stairs and found him in the bathroom, trying to brush his hair. I stood by the doorway, leaning on it.

"Did you ever ask Aubrey to prom?"

He didn't even look at me, but his fingers twitched. They do that when he's lying.

"Yeah, but she said no. She said she was going with Kenny."

I knew that was a lie. Aubrey has had a (very obvious) crush on Shawn since 9th grade. Why would she say no? I didn't want to fight on the day of prom, so I decided to save that for later.

"Why didn't you tell me? When did you ask her?"

He turned towards me. "I asked her yesterday. I didn't tell you because I thought you were to busy with the party and prom."

I nodded. "Ok, I have to go meet Melanie and Emily to get ready for tonight. I think we're ready for the party since your mom is helping this afternoon. I'll see you tonight?"

"Yeah."

I turned to walk down the stairs, then poked my head back in the bathroom. "Oh, and Shawn?"

He turned his head. "Yeah?"

"Why did you tell your mom you were going to prom with me?"

He smiled. "Because I am."

I grinned back at him. "Loser."

As I was walking down the driveway to my house, I saw Melanie and Emily's cars in front of my house. I want to tell them about Shawn. But they already know I like him. We talk about everything together. When I walked in, they already had all of my nail polish out with cotton balls, nail files and towels laid out. I laughed at them and flopped on the couch.

"Hey guys. Are you ready for prom?"

They looked at me like I was crazy. "Are we ready?" Emily asked me, "Of course!!!! I've been waiting forever!"

I smiled. "I know! I can't wait!"

I looked outside, and the sun was shining. I really can't wait for prom. I've waited all my life for this. I reached over Emily and grabbed a cotton ball, stealing the nail polish remover from Melanie.

She slapped my hand away. "Hey! I'm using that!"

I laughed. "Fine. Just give it to me when you're done."

I sorted through the bag of nail polish in front of us. I grabbed a shimmery light blue polish. It would look good with my dress. My dress is white and strapless, flaring out at my hips in silk and tulle. It has silver glitter sparkles all over the skirt, but not so much that it's really noticeable. It just kind of shines and sparkles when I move. I bought clear plastic kitten heels to go with my dress, which are surprisingly comfortable. They have flecks of silver glitter in them. I went shopping with my mom and Bethany for my dress, so Melanie and Emily haven't seen it yet. I hope Shawn likes it. Melanie handed me the bottle of nail polish remover.

"Here. You want to look perfect tonight for Shawn."

I gave her a look. "Melanie! Stop, seriously."

She laughed at me. "Well, it seems like he really likes you. Can't you see it? He constantly looks at you, even when you guys aren't talking. He blushes when he talks to you, every time. I've heard him talking to his friends about you before. You won't believe it, but he's in love with you. I heard him talking to Aaron earlier this week. He told him he loved you. He's in love with you."
