I looked at myself in the mirror, checking my outfit one more time. Today was Shawn and I's two year anniversary. We are still dating, and are still in love. We have had our fights, but we always make up.

Today Shawn was taking me on a picnic to the park we used to always go to. We played there when we were kids, and hung out there when we were teenagers. I was so excited. I got him a personalized guitar strap, with the date of our anniversary and an infinity sign on it. I got it from the music store a few blocks from our houses. I checked my hair one more time, making sure it was perfect. I was wearing a peach-colored sundress that had white polka dots on it. My hair was pulled back in a ponytail, and it was curled. I was wearing white flats, which I probably would not be wearing the whole time. I like going bare foot. Don't judge me.

As I grabbed his gift on my way out of my room, I ran into my mom. I was home from college for the summer, so I was staying at home.

She smiled at me. "Well, looks like you're going to have a fun time today."

She had supported my relationship with Shawn from the beginning, even before we started dating.

I nodded. "Yeah, I'd better go. He said to meet him there by 11, because he had to set up the picnic. It must be big enough to set up."

She laughed and said goodbye. I walked out the door, humming a little as I started walking to the small, local park.

As I neared the entrance of the park, I saw Shawn sitting on a blanket, with all kinds of food around him. There was A LOT of food.

I came up to the blanket, kicking off my shoes and sitting down. "Hey."

He smiled at me. "Hey."

He leaned over to kiss me, and accidentally knocked over a container of what looked like chocolate-covered strawberries. I laughed and he blushed, pushing it aside. He leaned over and kissed me, but after a few seconds, I pulled away.

He looked at me, and I laughed. "I'm hungry. I didn't eat breakfast."

He laughed and handed me a sandwich. As we ate, I mostly talked about my summer job at the coffee shop, Janie's, that was about 15 minutes from home.  There's this girl who's a really good singer, Gabriella, I think, who is there every Thursday.  He told me about his music, how his writing classes at college have really helped him.

When we came down to the last strawberry, he handed it to me.  I smiled.  "You don't want it?"

He shook his head.  "You can have it.  Consider it an anniversary present."

I laughed and ate it.  "Well, I kind of got you something better than a strawberry."

He laughed and I reached behind me to grab his gift. He looked back at me, quirking a small crooked smile. I smiled back and handed him his gift.  He carefully untied the ribbon, lifting the lid off of the box.  A sweet smile grew across his face, and he took the guitar strap out.

He held it up to see what was written on it.  "Wow.  This is so awesome."

I smiled and scooted over on the blanket next to him.  "Yeah, I thought it was pretty great too."

He laughed and put his fingers under my chin, kissing me softly.  I literally almost melted into a puddle of love.  Right there.  On our date.  Almost.

He pulled away and dug in his pocket, grinning at me. "Well, I kind of got you a little something more than a chocolate-covered strawberry."

He pulled out something, but hid it behind his back before I could see it.  He pulled me up to standing, then he started to speak.

"Rebecca, ever since I met you, I knew I was in love you.  You were my best friend, but that soon turned into more.  I can't imagine my life without you, and I never want to," he got down on one knee, pulling out a black box, opening it, revealing a ring. "So Rebecca, I was wondering, will you marry me?" His voice shook a little, and he smiled nervously, awaiting my answer. I started to cry a little, grinning like an idiot. His smile faltered when I started to cry. I nodded my head, wiping my tears.

"Yes!  Oh my gosh, yes."

He smiled and slid the ring on my finger. He stood up and kissed me, whispering "I love you" before our lips touched.  This was literally the best day ever.

When I pulled away, I looked at my ring. It looked really similar to my grandma's ring. In fact, it was her ring.

I smiled up at him, "You asked her for this ring? She knew? Did my mom know?"

He looked at the ground and grinned. "Actually, your whole family knew. Your grandma, mom, dad, Bethany and Danny. I asked them all for permission. They said yes."

I can't believe this. He is so sweet. I literally fall in love with him more every day. I smiled and kissed him again.

I pulled away, smiling again.  "I love you so much."

He twisted my hair around his fingers lightly.  "I love you too.  You know, I have the best fiancé ever."

I couldn't stop smiling.  "Oh, I don't think of you as my fiancé."

He made a confused look.  "Why?"

I kissed him again, grinning.  " 'Cause.  You're just the boy next door."

One year later, we got married in this park, with both of our families there.  This is my story, how I fell in love with the boy next door. Well, it's not my fault, he's the one who tripped me.
