The next morning I was up early, looking at the sun rising. I picked up my notebook and started writing. I had a good idea for a song last night. I hummed the lyrics I had written down and picked up my guitar. I strummed a little, changing some words here and there. After a while, I went downstairs to get something to eat. I saw my mom in the kitchen.
"Hey mom."
She turned to me. "Hey. I know you had a fight with Rebecca last night."
I gave her a look and grabbed an apple out of the fridge. "Why would you say that?"
She put down the book she was reading. "I heard her talking about it last night with her friends. She was also talking about the fact that Jackson Smith-"
I shook my head. "Mom, I know they're dating. You don't have to tell me."
"But they-"
"No. I know Mom. It's fine with me. She can date anyone she wants. I don't care."
She rolled her slightly. "Fine. If you won't listen to me, go talk to her. Maybe she can knock some sense into you."
She went back to reading her book. I stepped out of the kitchen and sat down on the couch, pulling my phone out of my pocket. I texted Aaron about what my mom said, and he told me to tell Rebecca that I love her. I should. But she's dating Jackson. I don't want to make her feel like she has to date me, just because I love her. She deserves to make her own choices and date who she wants. I don't want my feelings to influence that.
I also want to tell her. Get it over with. This secret is tearing us apart. If I tell her, maybe she will still be friends with me, even though she doesn't feel the same way.
I walked through the house towards the front door. I need tell her. I walked out the door, looking over to her house. But she was already walking towards me.
