When she told you her riddle, you simply smiled, eyes curving into crescents.

"I see," you said gently after a moment of silence. Then you've raised your head and looked straight into her eyes. When you spoke, there was clear resolve in your voice.

"The favour we have talked about last time... I have decided with whom I want to spend the first night."

Rhysand besides you flinched, Tamlin's eyes widened, Lucien looked ready to lose it.

"Oh, have you now?" Amarantha hissed.

You nodded.

"If I complete the task that awaits me, would you allow me to spend a night... with you?"

"..."

What??!

A stunned silence reigned over the throne room. Tens of eyes watched you with concern. Clearly, they thought, you were crazy.

Amarantha's laughter and smile this time were burning ferociously with hatred.

"See?" she turned to Tamlin with a pitying tone. "This is how fickle those vermin are. Didn't it take her less than a few days to forget her true love?"

"Who says I've forgotten?" you cut her off. Another death sentence, but who bothers counting at this point, right?

"My heart is brimming with love, but that doesn't mean that I'll stop thirsting for more." You wouldn't kill this human lunatic, right? What if you catch something from her?

Beautiful, blood-red lips twisted in disgust, but even then, the human didn't avoid her stare, showing nothing but honesty. It made the queen feel weird, uncomfortable.
