Even when she called you a human worm, you and your porcelain ego didn't get offended, instead, something along the lines of 'step on me' seemed to have crossed your mind. Were you doing okay?
Better than expected actually, since you've been able to make a bet with the queen. It was true what they said, fae loved their bargains. Three tasks and Tamlin's yours, unmasked and his court gets freed as well. Easy right?
You remembered how complicated Tamlin's original curse was. This scary lady had some quirky hobby.
Amarantha then added another way out for you, how kind of her! It was a riddle, which – not to be mean or anything - honestly made the whole thing a bit anticlimactic. Like... what are we, kids?
But since she's already added her thing, you might as well get brazen and incite her a bit more.
"Once every full moon is a long time, isn't it? If what you think about love is true, it could be difficult to keep a lousy human like me motivated. So..." You gazed up at her through your lashes, "...shouldn't I get a reward for completing those tasks of yours?"
After a moment of silence, Amarantha laughed.
"I'd think having those guts of yours stay inside your body should be enough, but you actually have the audacity to ask for more?"
Unsure if that was a rhetorical question or not, you nodded. The queen smiled carnivorously.
"Well then, go on, amuse me."
You stayed silent for a second, gathering all courage you could reach to look her in the eyes.
"For every task I successfully complete..." You could clearly see her composure hanging by a thread. Not sure if it was nervosity or sadism that made you drag out each sentence.
"Allow me, to spend a night with a person of my choosing."
"..."
Amarantha gritted her teeth, ready to have that human pest shredded to pieces.
Stares of pity and disbelief covered you like sticky marmalade. It was one thing to not cower in face of death, shamelessly spitting into it was something completely different. The Immortal Flower saw it the same way.
"And why exactly should I grant you your wish, instead of killing you right here and now?"
They have just made the bargain, so it would be a tiny bit disappointing to just kill you, but... you didn't give her any reason not to.
"It will be fun, I promise." If you knew something about those fae, it was that they were old. Wouldn't it make sense if their age made them bored out of their minds? Why else would they be so goddamn petty.
But it was just a thought. Who knows if you'll live to see another day.
Amarantha thought for a while, both impressed and irked by your bravery, or was it foolishness?
Her cold eyes pierced right through you and an electrifying shiver ran down your spine. She made her decision.
Even as the whole court room descended on you, and you got beaten up like never before, you couldn't stop the small smile that spread over your busted lips.
She agreed.
