Once again, you were beaten half to death, although nothing was broken this time. Apparently, they wanted you functional during the first task. Still, it hurt like hell.

Fortunately, Lucien snuck in once again. Less fortunately, he had a lot to say.

"WhAt in the WORLd wAs ThAT?!" the nagging fox exclaimed the moment he was done healing you.

"Have you absolutely lost your mind?"

You gave him a resigned smile, enjoying the feeling of not having your face all busted

up.

"It looks that way, doesn't it?" There was hardly any light in your cell, but it was still enough to see Lucien's bitter scowl.

"You want to know what it looks like to me? Like Tamlin, I, as well the entire Spring Court have sacrificed our freedom for you for absolutely no f****** reason."

Yeah, he was pissed. And now there was no pity nor worry that would soften his sharp stare.

"He did this for you! He made us do this for you. What are you thinking just waltzing in and flirting with that snake?"

"Lucien..."

"You were there that day, have you already forgotten? When that fairy died. It was her who tore off his wings!" Lucien's voice grew in volume as he took you by your shoulders. Involuntarily, you flinched. The bruises may have been gone, but you were still sensitive.

"The severed head, the curse, my eye... it was all her. Don't you remember?" His voice, usually so cheerful, almost broke at those last words.

In the throne room, seeing you smile at Amarantha made his stomach turn. He felt so disgusted, so betrayed. He could only imagine Tamlin must have felt even worse. But his friend's freedom was now more than restricted, aside from Lucien, he had no allies by his side. That was why tonight, Lucien came as much for your treatment as for an explanation. And if necessary, he was determined to beat some sense into you.

As if reading his thoughts, you were quick to placate him.

"I remember, Lucien, I remember everything. And that's exactly why I'm here." You gently cupped Lucien's cheek. His skin was scorching hot in the dense, chilly air of the prison.

"I came for Tamlin and his court, I came for you." His eye widened, when did your friendship had the time to bloom so beautifully?

For a brief moment, he leaned into your touch, but his expression still contorted in pain.

"Then why--"

"I don't like to suffer." You replied simply, chuckling at his absolute confusion.

"Isn't it harder to hurt a person who claims to love you?"

Lucien wanted to tell you, that such strategy can work only if both parties were sane, but decided against crushing your hopes.

"Every time I look at Tamlin, she's closer to snapping my neck, so why don't I instead... make her look at me?"

"..."

"Don't worry Lucien," you gave him a mischievous smile, "Tamlin was mine from the moment he broke into my house."
