Jake's hurried steps echoed through the hallway as he tried to balance a pile of books in his arms. Lost in his thoughts, he barely noticed the trio of Heeseung, Sunghoon, and Jay chatting near the bulletin board.
In his haste, Jake accidentally bumped into them, his books tumbling to the ground. "Oh, I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, quickly crouching to pick up his scattered belongings.
Sunghoon and Jay exchanged understanding smiles. "No worries, it happens to the best of us," Sunghoon reassured.
Jake managed a grateful smile before he heard Heeseung's voice, dripping with mock hurt. "Wow, Jakey. No apology for me?"
Jake's gaze shot up to meet Heeseung's amused eyes. He opened his mouth to respond, his usual retort on the tip of his tongue, when Professor Jung's approach interrupted them.
"Ah, Heeseung, Jake," Professor Jung called, coming to a stop in front of them. Sunghoon and Jay exchanged glances before they smiled at Jake and walked away, Sunghoon casually interlacing his fingers with Jay's.
Professor Jung's warm smile was directed at Heeseung and Jake. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important."
Heeseung shook his head, his casual demeanor intact. "Not at all, Professor."
Professor Jung's eyes twinkled. "Good. I wanted to speak with both of you about something. There's a festival coming up, and a few professors and I were discussing who would be best to plan and oversee the event. You both have a solid track record and the trust of the faculty."
Before Professor Jung could even finish, Jaeyun's expression turned incredulous. "Wait, hold on a minute. You're asking me and him to work together? That's a disaster waiting to happen!"
Heeseung raised an eyebrow, the ghost of a smile playing on his lips. "Oh, come on, Jake. We've collaborated before."
Jake huffed, clearly not convinced. But before he could unleash another round of protest, Heeseung sidestepped closer and slung an arm around Jake's shoulders, pulling him into his side with a grin.
"Besides, who wouldn't want to work with someone as charming and talented as Jake?" Heeseung's tone was teasing, his expression almost too sweet.
Professor Jung's smile widened at their interaction. "I'm glad to see you both on board. Thank you for taking this on."
As Professor Jung walked away, Jake wrenched himself out of Heeseung's hold and stared at him in disbelief. "Are you out of your mind? You agreed to this? You're a headache! Plus, we barely have time to plan this shit."
Heeseung just chuckled, seemingly unaffected by Jake's agitation. "Relax, Jake. We can handle this."
Jake rolled his eyes and turned to leave, muttering under his breath. "You're delusional if you think this will end well."
Heeseung's voice trailed after him, laced with playful innocence. "Don't be so dramatic. It's just planning a festival."
Jake continued walking away, his steps heavier than before, and a deep pout tugging at his lips. Unbeknownst to him, Heeseung watched his retreating figure, a fond expression on his face.
As Jake disappeared around the corner, Heeseung leaned against the wall, a contented sigh escaping him. "You're such a handful, Jaeyun-ah. But maybe that's why I can't resist."
And with that, he turned and walked away, leaving the hallway in silence, a soft smile lingering on his lips.
