Lying on the mattress I was thinking about the proposal, that Dada Ji told me about.
It had been 2 days since Sikha di's marriage, hers was a love marriage. She and Jiju had been in love since their graduation days. One day a proposal came for her from a distant relative When Sikha Di came to know about it, she instantly went to bade Papa and Dada Ji, without any fear and told them about her boyfriend. Though Bade Papa was in a dilemma at first after meeting Ishan Jiju he was convinced, that he was the right one for Sikha di. He belonged to a good family, was well-mannered and had a great job in a reputed IT company. So there was no reason to deny the proposal.
I too always wanted a love marriage from the start, but the circumstances didn't let that happen. My own insecurities and trust issues always came before my every feeling.
The boy Dada Ji chose for me was his childhood friend's grandson. The guy, his siblings and his family used to live abroad, but before some years they permanently shifted to India. As Dada Ji told me, the guy belonged to a businessman family and his father was an Indian but his mother is from outside of India. I assume his parents had a love marriage, then why was he opting for an arranged marriage.
Whatever the reason may be, but how could I give this proposal a thought without knowing and seeing that guy?
I was lost in my thinking world when someone knocked on my room's door. I sat up straightly saying, "Yes."
My father entered my room, It was 11 at night, and he had not slept, it was unusual of him, he came to my bed and sat next to me, " Purvi I want you to give this proposal a chance, they are good family, dad knew the guy's grandfather since his childhood. Even I tried to collect some information about his family through the people, I know are connected to them, everyone was saying it is a good proposal and we should accept it."
My father's relationship with me changed after that incident, though we came to terms with each other but still, his behaviour towards me was different. The warmness in his voice was always lacking. He became distant after that.
Years ago when he asked me for me, he made a promise to me, that 'I would never go against him, I would always think about his self-respect before doing anything.' After I agreed to all his sayings, he once again started talking to him.
I didn't want to make him feel upset again, so I was thinking of giving this proposal a try, Who knows he would behave like he used to in my childhood and teenage days.
Without wasting any time I let out, "Okay Papa if you want it, then I will give this proposal a thought, I will also meet the guy and family,"
He smiled at me, and after years of his distant behaviour, finally, he was happy. I was so happy at that time, his happiness really mattered to me. I wanted to get my old version of my father back, and if for that I had to meet the guy's family, then be it. I will do that for him.
Smiling he patted my head and left from there, not before saying a 'good night' to me. That night I slept thinking, that at least my family would be happy, after knowing my decision to meet the guy.

I woke up as usual early morning and went to the washroom to complete my morning chores and then, I went to the balcony to enjoy my coffee and the sunrise. After that, I went downstairs to the kitchen to meet my mother and Badi Ma.
Slowly and steadily I went towards my mother and hugged her from behind asking, "Ma nashte mai kya hai aaj?"
(Mom, what's for breakfast today?)
Smiling she said, " Dosa."
I smiled at her and asked, "Koi khaas wajah hai kya, aap itni khus kyun lag rahi ho."
(Is there any special reason why you look so happy?)
My Badi ma came towards me with a smile and kissed my forehead saying, "Baat hi Khushi ki hai tujhe ladke wale dekhne aa rage hai kal."
(It is a matter of happiness, boys will come to see you tomorrow.)I was shocked they planned to make us meet this soon, One night before only I agreed to this proposal and the boy's family was coming the next to meet me. It's too fast.
I went to my mother, "Ma itna jaldi kya hai."
(What's the hurry, Mom? Yesterday only I said yes to the proposal.)
" Aisa nhi hai beta, but ush ladke ke dada ji chahte hain ki yeh rishta jald se jald ho jaye, aajkal unki tabiyat think nhi rehti na isiliye." my mother explained to me.
(It is not like that, but that boy's grandfather wants this relationship to happen as soon as possible, nowadays he is not keeping well, that's why.)
" Aisa v kya jaldi hai ma, unhone mujhe dekha v nhi hai, aise kaise mujhe woh apne pote ke liye pasand kar rahe hai," I asked with a frown on my face.
(Mother, what's so hurry, he has not seen me yet, how he likes me for his grandson.)
"He had seen you Beta, at Sikha's wedding." my mother told me and left from there before I could further ask anything to her, as my father called her.
Confusingly I left from there towards my room.Sitting there only one thing came to my mind, ' Tomorrow is the day, I will meet the guy, will he like me or not?' and many more questions like that.
With a sigh, I replied to my own question,' Let's wait for tomorrow.'
