Chapter 10: New Life

I walked into Peter's house and see Aunt May in the living room. "Your home! How was the trip? Hi, Alli" she says. "Hi Aunt May" I say to her and hug her. "Tell me about the trip" she said to Peter and me and pulls us into the living room and we sit on the couch. "It was fun" Peter says and I look up at him. He looks at me and grabs my hand and I smile. "Well, you two make a cute couple, and I'm glad that you found someone who understands you, Peter" Aunt May says and Peter looks at her with a smile. "Yeah, me too" Peter says to her and looks back at me.

"Alli, shouldn't you be getting home? It's getting late." she says to me.

"No, I'm not living with my uncle anymore" I say.

"Oh, what happened?"

"When we got back, he was waiting for me and he was slapping me and kicking me. Luckily, Peter was there to help me, or else I would've been really hurt."

"Well, I'm glad your ok, and you can stay here with us."

I nod and smile at her then Peter takes me up to his room and I sit on the bed. Peter sits next to me and I look down at my hands, "Everything will be ok, Alli. Nothing will happen to you." he says to me. "What if he told me was true what if he hunts me down to the ends of the earth and gets you and Aunt May arrested?" I ask all worried. "Hey! I'm not gonna let that happen! If he does find you, I'll protect you no matter what the cost is!" he says grabbing my hand and I look up at him. "Peter, he won't stop until he has me." I say to him a pool of tears filling my eyes. "What happened to the girl that told her uncle off when he was being a complete asshole. He deserved what you told him and I think your parents would've supported what you said to him." he said to me. "She was only there for a short amount of time. I guess that girl is only here when the red eyes show up" I say in response.

My eyes only turn red when I'm really angry. Kind of like the Hulk, but without going crazy with rage. "Can't you control those red eyes?" he asks me and I look up at him. "I can probably try, but I doubt that it'll show" I say to him. "Just try" he says and I nod and close my eyes. I focus mainly on anger to try to make the red appear in my eyes. I open them again and Peter looks into my eyes. "Is there any red?" I ask him looking into his eyes. "No, nothing showed" he says and I let go of his hands and lay back on the bed. "I told you it probably wouldn't work" I say to him looking at the ceiling. "Don't give up, Alli, you just need to practice, that's all." he says and lays next to me. Maybe he's right. Maybe I just need to practice and my red eyes can appear on command.

I turn my head to look at him and he does the same. I sit up and cross my legs and stare at Peter. He smiles at me and looks up at the ceiling. Everything was quite and I take this as an opportunity to practice. I close my eyes and think of angry thoughts. Mostly ones of my uncle and the way he's treated me. Anger rushes through me and I feel Peter sit up, "Alli, are you ok?" he asks me sounding concerned. I stay quiet keeping my eyes closed and the anger builds up. I open my eyes and look at Peter who has wide eyes once I opened mine. "Alli, they're red!" he says with a smile and I nod. "Are your powers different when you're eyes are like that?" he asks and I shrug. I levitate one of the books on Peter's desk and nothing happened.

I put the book down and focus on reading minds instead. I read Peter's mind but suddenly I started to see parts of his memory from his childhood and recently. I snap back to reality when Peter puts a hand on my shoulder. "Alli, what happened?" he asks me and I look at him confused and I realized I was laying on the bed. "What do you mean?" I ask him. "You passed out for at least 20 minutes" he said and I look at him confusingly. I was only in his mind for at least 1 minute, I think. "I read your mind, but then I saw your memories from the past and what happened in the present time" I tell him. He looks at me shocked and I get up and walk over to the bathroom looking at myself in the mirror. My eyes were still red and they wouldn't go away when I blinked. I closed my eyes and thought of happy things. Once I open my eyes again, I look at the mirror and see that my eyes were still red and they wouldn't turn back to normal.

I walk back to Peter's room and looked at him worriedly. "What's wrong?" he asks me concerned then he sees my eyes. "Alli, turn your eyes back to normal" he says to me. "Easier said than done" I begin to say and I look back to Peter. "I can't turn my eyes back to the way they were. I tried blinking and thinking of happy things but nothing worked" I tell him. He looks at me and thinks of something that would help me. "We can call Tony and Bruce to see what they would say" he says and I nod. "That could probably work, but we'll do it tomorrow. They're probably asleep by now" I say to him. "Fury told me that he dropped off our shopping bags here, so you have clothes for tomorrow" he said and I nod. "I'll see you in the morning, Pete" I say to him as I walk towards the door. "See you in the morning, Alli" he says and I turn and peck his lips and hands me a shirt to wear when I sleep. I walk into the guest bedroom, shut the door and take off the clothes I had on and put the shirt on.

I look at the shopping bags from Aeropostale, Forever 21, etc. on the ground. I look away from them and look at the view again and smile. Tomorrow would be a new day of a new life. I turn off the light and lean on the wall looking at the view. As soon as my eyes were getting heavy, I laid under the covers and before sleep could take over me, I think of the things that happened over the past 4 days. I smile at the thought and let sleep take over me.
