If I could use one word to describe my pursuers it would definitely be persistent.
As I slinked into school I glanced around. No sign of him yet, but that doesn't mean I'm in the clear. I started speeding up until I got to my class. I peeked in. He was sitting at his desk talking to another werewolf in our class, Henry. I threaded my way around the desks and sat in my seat. I think it'll be fine. He didn't see me so he can't claim that some ancient god told him I'm a werewolf. I returned my attention back to the board. Grace was absent today, so it's antisocial time.
The moment the bell went off I bolted, I didn't even pack my stuff. I just scooped it up and ran. It was passing time now, so I didn't have to sit next to Peter. I was still a bit wary but was feeling better. Then it happened. I freaking fell. Full almost face plant. Why is this bad you may ask. It's because every single freaking time I fall some knight in shining armor catches me. I was so close to making it through the day too. I close my eyes and pinch the bridge of my nose. Here we go. I turned to the guy who turned out to be Peter. Wonderful. How could this get any better. He stood me up and then glanced around. He told me to follow him into the janitor's closet because he had something to tell me. 5 bucks says he tells me I'm the werewolf king or something stupid like that. I sigh begrudgingly and follow him. Every time these situations pop up. I have tried everything. It makes no difference, no matter what you do they track down where you live and make you listen to what they have to say.
Peter tells me that their god, Fenrir, said that there would come a time when a darkness swallowed the earth but to not fret "my children" because a great hero would rise to fight it. He looked at me,
"That chosen one is you, Cristian."
I gave him a side eye, "How do you know it's me, it could be someone else."
"No," he said "I felt your aura in the forest. You are definitely the chosen one."
"Nope, go find someone else."
"What, what do you mean go find someone else. You have to go save the world."
"I don't feel like it."
"But your the chosen one. You have to!"
"Ok then, as the chosen one I choose you to go fight the demondragonlordofdarknessthingy"
"You can't just do that"
"Yes I can, watch me. Boom prophecy changed. Good luck"
He stared at me for a while. "But you have to become leader of our pack." He whined.
I inhaled deeply and closed my eyes. I set my hand on his shoulder, looking him straight in the eye. "I award you this 'honor' so go and be king of the wolves or something. Bye, see you in math tomorrow."
"But why?" He asked eyes full of confusion and betrayal.
"Let me level with you Peter, I don't care what your god has to say, I don't care about whatever encroaching darkness thing, I don't care about your pack, and I certainly don't care about saving the world. I only care about turning in my homework and graduating high school. Good bye."
I walked out of the closet leaving a gaping Peter behind. Don't judge me. Whenever I decline the quests I don't know what happens, but what I do know is that the world is still turning and my English essay is still due.
So far it looks like avoiding the major events still lead to them trying to induct you into their weird cult things. This is gonna be difficult. I pulled my hood over my head and headed out of school since it was over. As I was walking away I heard a car door slam behind me. OH MY FREAKING GOD AGAIN. I took a deep breath and turned around. Striding towards me was a guy my height. I glance at his clothes before I decide to look him in the eye. Everything on him looked expensive. 50 bucks says he's the new foreign exchange student who joins my class tomorrow. I put on my fake smile face and pulled my hood down. Oh no, it's him. I grit my teeth.
"Hi Charlie, how have you been."
