We started heading back to Marcy's when the sun started going down.
"Hey mom, dad. You guys remember Bea, right?" Marcy said re-introducing me to her parents. They were honestly lovely. No they weren't perfect. Yes they fought, but they were all round good parents to Marcy.
"Oh my god yes! Bea it's been so long! How have you been?" Marcy's mom said getting up and pulling me into a hug.
"Hey Bea," her dad said. I waved over.
"I've been better. But I'm really good since I found out Marcy goes to my school," I replied.
"Oh well that's good. What brings you here?" She asked curious. "Oh um I've come to live with my aunt," I replied unsure.
"Oh that's good. Getting a change of scenery. How's your parents and your brother?" she asked. I mean, not gonna lie, I felt like my chest caved in at the thought. But she didn't know.
"I'll tell you later mom," Marcy said, obviously seeing me struggling. I gave her mom a smile.
"Well I should get going before it gets too dark. It was so nice to see you guys," I said grabbing my bag.
"Same to you. And you're welcome here anytime sweet," she said back.
"Thank you," I replied nicely.
I started walking back home. It was only just getting dark but I took my time. I didn't really want to go back "home". I was walking backwards looking at Marcy's house. Thinking of all the memories we had back in New York. I was clicked out of my thoughts when I bumped into someone and dropped all my books.
"Shit," I mumbled under my breath.
"I'm so sorry," the voice said. It sounded familiar. He helped me pick my books up and we stood up at the same time.
"It's fine. It's my fault. I wasn't concentrating," I replied.
"You must be new around here huh," he said handing me a book back.
"Yeah, I am. I'm Bea," I said putting my hand out to shake. "Sodapop," he replied with a bright smile and shaking my hand.
"I know. I saw you at the gas station," I replied. I was smiling. I couldn't help it.
"What's a lovely lady like you walking alone at this time of night?" He asked.
"Um I don't know. I was just leaving a friends house," I replied. "I live just down the street there."
"Oh okay. Well do you want me to walk you home?" He offered. His smile could light up a whole city. "Sure. Only if you want to," I replied blushing a little.
"It's no problem for me. Come on," he motioned while putting his hands on his pockets.
"So Bea, tell me a little bit about yourself," Sodapop said.
"Not much to say really. I'm a 16 year old girl who goes to a normal high school and who lost her parents. Basically sums up my life," I replied.
"Shoot, I'm sorry about your parents, I lost mine too," he replied.
"Oh I'm sorry. It's hard isn't it."
"Yeah."
"Well tell me about you now."
"Well I'm a 16 year old boy who dropped out of high school and works at a gas station."
"Well it's good that I know another person in this neighbourhood."
"Yeah. We should hangout sometime."
"Yeah. That'd be great," I replied with a smile.
"You should come round tomorrow after school. Bring your friend too," he said as we walked up to my door.
"I'd love that. And I'll tell her," I replied. I was annoyed that I was home. I could talk to Soda all night.
"Well I'll see you tomorrow then," I said looking into his eyes. His gorgeous blue eyes.
"Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow," he said smiling. I watched as he walked away into the darkness. This was the time I dreaded. Facing my aunt. I walked inside to be greeted by a screaming women.
"WHERE IN HELL'S NAME HAVE YOU BEEN!?" She screamed at me.
"Hello to you too," I said walking to my room.
"DON'T YOU WALK AWAY FROM ME! NOW TELL ME WHERE YOUVE BEEN!" She said. God this women's could scream.
"Keep your voice down would you. You'll make the neighbours run," I replied.
"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE NEIGHBOURS WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" She said again.
"At a friends house. I'm going to bed," I said as calmly as I could. It's taken me a long time to get my temper under control.
"I don't ever want to hear you talking to me like that ever again," she said more quietly as she walked up to me. Next thing I know my cheek was stinging. She slapped me so hard I could feel the handprint forming on my face. I went and had a shower and went straight to bed. Soon it was morning and I was woken by the sun in my face. I got dressed and didn't bother getting any food, I just had to get out of that house. I grabbed my bag and started walking down the street to Marcy's house. My face was still sore from last night but the cold helped it. I passed Soda's house and saw someone walking around in the window. I kept on walking and before I could even knock on Marcy's door, she opened it.
"Hey, good timing," she said walking out.
"I've managed to master it over the years," I replied sarcastically. "Well, come on! Let's go. We can grab some food on the way," she said walking down her porch steps. "Wait. What happened to your face?"
"Oh. Liz slapped me cause I got home late. It's okay though. It doesn't hurt," I replied.
I then followed her and threw my bag into her car and got in. We went to the Dairy Queen to grab some food and headed to school. As we were walking up to the door, I heard someone call my name. I turned around to see Sodapop not too far away. "Come," I motioned for Marcy to come with me.
"Hey Soda," I said clutching my books.
"Hey, I'm Marcy," Marcy said while giving me the "good job" look. "Hey, I'm Sodapop," he said putting his hand out to shake.
"I know. You work at the DX station," she said shaking his hand.
"I sure do," he replied.
"Anyway, what brings you here. I thought you dropped out?" I said confused.
"Oh I bring my little brother to school. Hey Pony! Come here for a sec," Soda called out. A younger boy came up to Soda's side.
"This is Bea and Marcy. Bea and Marcy, this is Ponyboy," he said. "Nice to meet you Ponyboy," I said.
"Hey Ponyboy," Marcy said.
"Hey," he replied with a smile. He also had perfectly greased brown hair. Brown eyes, tough build.
"How old are you?" I asked curiously.
"I'm 14," he replied without hesitation. Wow. He looked older than that. As I was about to say something, the bell rung.
"Bye Soda, bye Ponyboy," I said. "Bye guys," Marcy added.
"Bye. Oh and remember this afternoon," Soda said with a wink. "And what are you doing this afternoon," Marcy asked with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
"Oh you're coming with me. We're going over to their house," I replied with a smile.
"Being social now are we?" She said walking down the hall.
"Am I ever," I replied walking into our home room.
