Catherine's POV
It has been awfully quiet for weeks now, no attacks on our shipment, no news on Marco and it was driving us crazy. Well, it's either he is dead or he is pretty good at hiding and I hoped it's the former. Things have been pretty good between me and Salvatore. Although he get on my nerves sometimes but he can be sweet when he wants too.
"Where are you? You are running late" I barked at Anthonio through the phone.
"Calm your horses, Catherine. I am outside." He said to me
"You better be." I hung up.
I picked up my purse and led Mia out the door.
We were going for an art exhibit and Salvatore did not fancy the idea of us going alone. Since he could not go with us, he made sure Anthonio tagged along.
"If I arrive just a second late, I will kill you myself" I said to him after making sure Mia was comfortably seated at the back seat.
"We both know you can't live without me." He winked at me. "besides it's a two hours drive, we have a lot of time on our hands." He pouted.
"We will see about that." I opened the front door and sat while he got into the driver's seat.
******
"Are we there yet?" Mia asked for the hundredth time.
I chuckled. "No Mia, you need to be patience."
"But I am hungry." She whined.
"Ok Mia. I will make a stop at the next restaurant and get you something. Would you love that?" Anthonio asked
"perfetta." She said in Italian. Anthonio winked at her.
Few minutes later, a restaurant came in view. Anthonio parked the car at the side of the road before stepping out to get her food.
I checked the time and it has been fifteen minutes since Anthonio left
"Why is Uncle Anthonio not back?" Mia asked me.
"I don't know Mia."
"What is taking him so long? I should have killed him when I had the chance." I muttered
I brought out my phone to call him but the lady at the other end of the road was waving in our direction. She was barefooted, the yellow dress she wore was torn in different angles and her hair was in a mess.
"Who is that?" Mia pointed in her direction.
"Probably someone who lives on the street." I told her.
I dialed Anthonio number and stared at the lady, she kept on repeating something as she waved at me. I pushed the window button down so I could hear her clearly.
"Leave that place now." She cried out. I turned to see if maybe she was talking to someone else in the area but it was just my car that was parked.
"Crazy people everywhere." I ignored her and dialed Anthonio number again.
I noticed the lady running towards us.
"Get out of that car." She cried out.In a twinkle of an eye, a trailer collided with my car causing the car to tumble. I could hear Mia screaming, and I was faced with the tile road. The car was upside down. I struggled to hold Mia who was lifeless but I couldn't move. My head was spinning and it hurt. "Mia" I stretched my hand to hold hers. "Mia" I called out again but no response from her.
The last thing I remember was the Lady trying to get me out before it all went black.
********
I abruptly stood, gasping out for air. I checked my surroundings and I realized I was in the hospital. My mind went back to what had happened. I remembered taking a stop at a restaurant, the crazy lady, the trailer, the accident, Mia.
"Mia" I panicked. I got off the hospital bed, removed all the drip in my hand and moved towards the door. My vision was blurry and I struggled all the way to the reception. I anxiously tapped on table
"Mia D'Montez. Where is Mia D'Montez?" I asked the receptionist.
"Ma'am, you should be in your room resting." She said to me,
"Spare me that crap and tell me where my daughter is." I cried out
"Catherine?." I turned to Vincento.
"Where is Mia?" I asked him.
"Capo, will be mad if he sees you here." He said to me,
"Please, just tell me Mia fine. Tell me she's okay?" I begged him
"She is in the operating room at the moment." He said with a sad face.
"Take me to her."
"You are in no position to walk you need rest, once the surgery is over I will personally inform you."
I wiped the tears off my face. "I have to be there Vincento. She needs me." He sighs in defeat before taking me towards the operating room. I held onto him for support as we walked.
We got to the OR to see Salvatore seated with his head on his hand, Anthonio was pacing around and three other men stood guard.
"Salvatore." I called out softly. On hearing my voice, their attention was on me.
He was shocked when he saw me, he rushed over to me. "How did you… you shouldn't… Why are.." I held onto him and cried.
"I am sorry Salvatore. I am sorry." He held me closer to his chest. "We should have stayed at home." I cried out.
"Shhhhh." He kissed the top of my head. "It's not your fault." He smooths my hair and stares into my eyes "Mia will be fine and I promised to get the asshole who did this to you both." I cried.
"We will be fine." He hugged me tightly.
We stood in that position for a while. The doors to the operation room opened and the doctor walked out.
We moved towards him. "How is she?" I asked.
"She lost a lot of blood." He said. "She fractured her bones and she sustained lung injuries." He paused then continued "This is a child case , so we need to be careful and believe me we are doing our very best." He told us before walking away.
I cried. I couldn't bear the fact that Mia was in so much pain.
"Where is she?" The familiar voice called out. We turned to see Marco coming towards us.
How dare he?
The guards standing held him back so he could not move.
"Let me through." He told them. "Salvatore, tell me to let me through." I rushed over to him and slapped him hard.
"You have the audacity coming here Marco." I told him
"What do you mean?" He asked
I noticed he had a plaster on the left side of his eye, there was a wound at the corner of his lips and his right leg was covered in bandages.
