wondering

"So, Kelsi's...the lead?"

"God, I think our next date should be movie night because the fact that you haven't seen HSM feels illegal," Andrea chuckles, "No, Kelsi isn't the lead. She's a supporting character, mostly the pianist and composer—"

"Hold on, so you aren't playing the lead?" Joseph scoffs, making Andrea furrow her brows in confusion. "That lady must be blind or deaf or both to not have casted you as the lead. She must be new to town because you can't have a Townsend in your musical and throw her in the background."

"What?"

"All i'm saying is that you deserve better...you should demand better. It's not too late to go to that woman's office and—"

"I actually like my role." Andrea cuts her boyfriend off, making him look at her weirdly. "Its not extremely time consuming, I get to play piano the whole time, and I get to wear these weird hats. It's a dream."

"Well, if you are fine with settling, i'm happy for you." It takes everything within the girl not to scoff, "I just want to see my baby shine. You deserve to have all the attention for yourself."

"Sure." Was the only response the girl could think up.

"Hey, Jo." A group of cheerleaders call the boy over, not even sparing Andrea a single glance. "We want to show you something!"

"One sec." He tells them before turning to Andrea. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Sure." Andrea repeats her previous response. Joseph smiles before leaning in to kiss his girlfriend. The girl cringes and turns her head so that his lips meet her cheek instead. She hated seeing and doing PDA, she always thought that intimate parts of relationships should be private. "See you."

Andrea hangs back to watch as her boyfriend rushes over to the group of girls, greeting them with a toothy grin. The scene sends her back to a not-so-happy time in her life that she thought she had trauma-blocked.

Her dad surrounded by a group of women, laughing up a storm. When Andrea had asked who they were, he had assured her that they were just work friends. He lied.

Realizing that she was too much into her head, she forces herself out of the void and walks away from the scene and to her locker, hoping that it would give her enough time to relax before her quiz next period.

She finally makes it to her locker and starts to exchange the textbooks in her bag for the new ones that she would need for her next class. "Andrea!"

"I'm not supposed to be on speaking terms with you, Caswell." Andrea shuts her locker to see the familiar boy approaching her. "If my cousin sees me talking to you, he might throw a fit."

"Then why are the two of you in the musical? Is he doing this to spite me? To try and steal my girlfriend? To try to take the lead before I can?"

"Relax, pretty boy. The world doesn't revolve around you." Andrea chuckle, meeting her old friend's intense gaze. "Miss Jenn asked us to be in the musical this year, no ulterior motives here. Trust me."
