Harry's Universe, Second Year of Hogwarts, 1939

Tom Riddle POV:

The truth will ultimately prevail.

Tom Riddle sits in the tall leather seat that signifies the leadership position in the second year court. in his perfectly shiny pressed school robes. Hair delicately combed to the side to accentuate his cheekbones, the style sharpening his young handsome face. His eyes roam calculatingly at the senior courts, his hands pressed together in front of him in a thinking pose. They are busy gossiping, laughing, speaking politics as if they will ever be worthy to be part of it, unaware of the true power just feet from them.

Tom has digested many wizardry books on pureblood culture, but it is still the muggle literature- years being forced to memorize in school- that crosses his mind as he contemplates his next plan of action.

"Nay, indeed, if you had your eyes, you might fail of the knowing me: it is a wise father that knows his own child. Well, old man, I will tell you news of your son: give me your blessing: truth will come to light; murder cannot be hid long; a man's son may, but at the length truth will out." The Merchant of Venice, Act 2, Scene 2

The truth will out.

One day, everyone will see.

Lestrange and Rosier are sitting meekly on the long black couch on his right, waiting on him. Pureblood sires acting like his butlers. They daren't say a word out of line, flinching at the sight of his yew wand rolling carelessly on his lap. Aethon Malfoy stands beside his left, the messenger made to pass him a letter from his elder brother formally inviting him to stay at the Manor. The muggle war has threatened Hogwarts to close, and what was at first a threat to Tom's plans...was now an unexpected opened door of opportunity.

Abraxas knows the truth of Tom's heritage, and through many letters, has requested Tom keep the knowledge to himself. Until the time is 'right', is his excuse. Such valuable information should not be made too soon, he coaxes. The rich heir obviously wants Tom to be in his debt, to play by his rules. The invitation to stay at the Manor is another attempt at trying to make Tom dependent, under Abraxas's wing. Tom is in no position to bargain. To deny Abraxas, will mean he will have to return to the orphanage, to the muggles.

They fear him more now, keep far away from him. But he still loathes returning to the place he does not belong in.

The Slytherins in the upper court still ignore him. He is known as Walburga's mentee, an orphaned wizard with unclear blood status. The younger court though, have heard of his magic and actions last year. Tom is quick to assert his place among his peers, the third and fourth years are the first to hear the rumours, notice the change.

That which will be destroyed by the truth should be.

There will be a time when Tom will no longer be ignored, he will go by a name that will be known by all. He will peel back the many layers of the pureblood customs and leech his way through the top in his House, he will lead foolish purebloods, meek rich wizards like Abraxas, make them kneel before him, become mere shadows in his grandeur. He will ensure his rightful destiny is fulfilled.

The orphanage will one day be a burning memory.

Tom snaps his finger, beckons Aethon Malfoy with a finger (the boy pales immediately but hastens to follow).

"Tell your brother, I accept,"

"O-okay," Aethon Malfoy stands awkwardly beside his seat for a few minutes more, not daring to look at the other boys on the couch. When Tom does not say anything, he quietly takes a step back. Mumbling uselessly about studying, when all he will do is sit in his chair alone. The pathetic boy has no friends.
