They were nine. By the sea side.
Tom was staring down at the mute girl, her eyes blank seeing nothing. His nostrils fuming. Shoulders tense with fists hanging by his side. The boy beside her was crouching on the ground... tearing his clothes off, in a trance, face open-mouthed in sheer terror.
Tommy stop!
People were coming.
They were going to find out.
Blame him.
Call him the devil.
Send him to the Cellar.
Tommy stop!
Nutbrown eyes were red and scary, like a monster, had worn his face. And Harry feels his heart stop beating, not knowing what to do.
He tried shaking and pulling Tom's arm, trying to make him listen.
Stop hurting them!
I c-can't... Tom says, and his face is in frozen panic. He can't control his ability. He tried to bring the sea, and now they were drowning.
No.
The kids were the evidence in front of them.
They were going to take him away.
Separate them.
No one can know, Harry thinks. No one can find out.

Malfoy Manor, December 1995
Draco POV:
Last summer had been difficult on Draco's pride. He was already peeved at being second (the first loser, his father reminded him unkindly) for Witch Weekly's Most Attractive and Desirable British Teenage Wizard to the pathetic Cedric Digory (the Hogwarts so-called 'champion' who literally could replace any of Father's meek insubordinate)... and then a month later, news revealed that Harry Potter had returned to Great Britain and to Draco's utter devastation, Draco was bumped to third place.
To third?
Draco saw Harry Potter's picture in the Daily Prophet, his hair was a mess, and he was smiling at the wrong camera for the shot. Did he become Prefect? Was he nominated for the best smile by Witch Weekly two years running? Was he the Hogwarts Slytherin Prince? Did he win the International Spell Inventor award at thirteen?
Draco was all these things and he was bumped third ?
Draco Malfoy had never been anything lower than first all his life.
When the Great Boy-Who-Lived finally graced his presence at Hogwarts and was later sorted into Gryffindor (how disgustingly predictable), Draco was already scheming on ways to bring the boy's popularity down. It would be easy, with Rita Skeeter in his pocket. She helped reveal the 'truth' that Diggory was considering a lowly Ministry job. Nothing fancy and at all worthy of being fantasized about, Draco was sure the Hufflepuff Loser's ratings would drop. And now Draco needed to find dirt on Harry Potter to reclaim his status as the Prince of Hogwarts.
Malfoy's were bred to be on top, always.
Draco Malfoy was born to be wanted, admired, and surrounded by nothing but the best. No one can take away his spot as number one. He wore the finest tailor-made clothes, his hair was kept in pristine condition, he trained relentlessly in Quidditch to ensure he had the perfect body and his every move was heavily calculated to ensure he was displaying his best angle at all times. Draco Malfoy was a winner. Not a loser.
