As the group continued to search for any possible clues, tension and fear grew with each passing moment. Gina, exhausted and frustrated, couldn't bear the fruitless search any longer. She screamed, "Let's just go home! This is useless! We can't find anything!"
Rio, still upset over losing Beth, disagreed with Gina's suggestion. He couldn't bear the thought of leaving without finding his friend. But as the others discussed the idea, Ben pointed out that returning to the home island would give them cell phone reception and a chance to call for help.
Betty and the rest agreed with Ben's suggestion, and slowly, they made their way back to the edge of the island to cross over to the city beach. Rio, still upset, trailed behind the group, wrestling with his emotions.
Standing near the water's edge, Gina stepped forward and began wading through the shallow waters. The others followed suit, with Rio hesitating for a moment before joining them. Just as they were about to cross, a loud sound filled the air, and a bright, colorful object zoomed towards them at high speed.
Caught off guard, Gina screamed and stumbled, getting soaked in the process. Eric couldn't help but make fun of her, momentarily breaking the tension in the group. But the appearance of the mysterious objects left them all bewildered.
Once they safely crossed the water, they realized that Rio was missing again, just like how Stan had vanished before. Panic and fear gripped them once more, the sense of helplessness growing with each disappearance.
Eric announced that he needed to go relieve himself and went off to pee, despite the others urging him not to go alone. As they argued, a bright yellow light gleamed in the distance, catching their attention. Betty and Eric suggested checking it out, thinking it might provide some answers to the night's mysteries.
However, Gina had reached her breaking point. Tired, soaked, and frustrated, she refused to go along with their plans. She wanted to find professional help and some water instead of wandering aimlessly in the dark.
Ben, unsure of what to do, followed Gina silently, sensing her anger and determination. The rest of the group, Betty, Eric, and Nancy, shouted at Gina to turn back, but she remained steadfast in her decision.
The chapter ended with the group divided, lost in the strange lights and sounds of the haunted woods. Betty's heart ached for her missing family and friends, and the night seemed to grow darker and more unforgiving. The horrors of the woods were far from over, and the mysteries they had to uncover seemed to deepen with each step they took.
