For once, the Bentley wasn't going over 100 miles an hour. That was mostly due to the narrow country roads, though. Unlike earlier that morning, the car was filled with comfortable chatter. They weren't talking about anything in particular, but it was nice to get lost in a conversation.
"Have you searched up images on that electronic device you carry around with you? Of the town, I mean."
Crowley snorted. "It's called a phone, angel. And yes, I did. But, only briefly. It seemed rather small... but I didn't think you'd mind that."
"I don't mind that at all, dear." Aziraphale smiled, gazing, as if in a trance, at the passing scenery. "Anyway, as long as they have crepes, I'll be fine!"
"You're obsessed, love."
Aziraphale froze, snapped violently out of his trance. Crowley... using pet names (other than angel of course)?! It was unheard of! And Crowley could immediately sense the shift in atmosphere.
"Shit, sorry. I don't know why I said that, I-"
"It's fine, darling." Aziraphale giggled. "I rather like it. It just caught me off guard."
Crowley physically relaxed, knowing that he hadn't just gone too fast. He was finally at the right speed.
"A-alright then. Dearest." There was no denying Crowley's cheesy grin. It was odd, yet not unwelcome by the Angel.
After a little while longer, the muddy, country roads turned into a cobbled path. It was bumpy, to say the least. But here they were, surrounded by not so tall buildings. Of course, it felt much more intimate, and Aziraphale decided he preferred it that way. He didn't think he'd ever miss the racket of Soho, even if he still missed the bookshop.
Parking wasn't too easy to find, but once a suitable space appeared, the Bentley was parked, and the couple eagerly stepped out. The Angel's eyes lit up at the sight of a sweet smelling bakery, and, of course, a crepe stand as tall as anything displayed in the window. He was positively buzzing!
"I can see you eyeing that up, angel..." Crowley moved to stand by his side, inspecting the crepe stand with interest. "Remember, we're here for lunch? We can get them after."
"Oh! Yes, yes, I apologise darling! I was, er, just... admiring! Admiring the beautiful display."
"Mhm, yep." The Demon shrugged. He began to walk off, knowing full well Aziraphale would never let him run off on his own, especially in a new place. And soon enough, the Angel was right beside him.
The town wasn't huge, and was majorly run by independent businesses. There were so many different shops - flower shops, cafes, restaurants, and every other small town essential. The lack of people was slightly jarring for both Angel and Demon, but in a way, it felt like there was more room to breathe.
After about fifteen minutes of aimless wandering, they stumbled across a rather hidden cafe. It was perfect! The atmosphere was peaceful, there were fresh flowers hung all around the shop, and there just to happened to be the most scenic window seat known to mankind.
"Hi! How may I help you?" A warm voice sung from the counter. A woman, probably in her mid 30's, was stood in a simple apron and long sleeved shirt. Despite working minimum wage, her smile was as bright as a child's - and was full of the same innocence.
"Oh, can I get a, uhh..." Crowley squinted to read the chalk board menu, but being a snake had its disadvantages. "Angel, could you read that for me?"
"Of course, dear!" The Angel grinned, listing off only the drinks. He knew Crowley wasn't a big fan of food, and much preferred luxuries such as alcohol. And as much as Aziraphale loved a cheeky bit of wine, he knew there would always be a special place in his heart for food.
It definitely wasn't because it was the Demon himself who'd introduced him to it at all, what do you even mean-
Anyway, Crowley chose his, and let Aziraphale get whatever he wanted. He knew that was a human way of showing he cared, as well as fulfilling his promise from that morning.
"I'll get them over to you right away. Take a seat!" In response, the Demon simply nodded in acknowledgment, before dragging the Angel over to the previously mentioned window seat.
// Hello!
I'm so sorry to cut this chapter short, but it is almost midnight and I am in dire need of SLEEP.The reason I wanted to get this out today is because I'm out all day tomorrow, from very early in the morning to late at night, and maybe on the journey to and from I'll get something written down. But it's not a guarantee. So I wanted you to at least have something.
I also didn't want to rush this because I finally have ideas for how to make an actually plot for this book instead of just being like oneshot collections, and I want to be able to develop this as much as possible over as many chapters as I can.
I may also be updating this part if I want to extend it rather than make a new chapter, and maybe instead of a new chapter I'll just finish this.
As well as this, I will be on holiday starting from Friday - Monday, so I could possibly schedule some chapters to come out then if I make sure to not procrastinate again 😅
Anyway! I hope you enjoyed this shorter chapter, and again sorry for the rather abrupt ending. Votes and comments are appreciated, but not necessary! Have a great day / night and I'll see you in the next one!
