~~~~~~ It was a beautiful winter morning, Guthrum woke up and made his way over to his daughter's chambers! He knocked on the door and she slowly opened it! They widely smiled at each other and she let him in moments later! He sat down on her bed and watched as she walked over to the large window, through which the sun shone beautifully! Darina still smiled at her father and waited for him to say something, because she knew, that he had something to say to her! ~~~~~~
Darina:"Father, I know you want to say something!...(*Guthrum sighed*)...so what is it that couldn't wait until breakfast?" Guthrum:(*he lowered his head*)"Remember mine and Ubba's attack on Winchester?...(*Darina nodded*)...and that Uhtred Ragnarsson, killed Ubba and scared all my men and his?" Darina:"Yes, but why are you asking me all this?...(*Guthrum took a deep breath*)...father, you're scaring me! Is there danger? Shall I equip your men with new weapons?" Guthrum:(*he shook his head*)"No, Darina, my men still have enough weapons, thank you!...(*Darina tilted her head*)...but what I'm about to tell you will make you angry and I understand every consequence to my statement..." Darina:"Father, don't tell me you want to convert to Christianity?!...(*tears rose in Guthrum's eyes*)...you betray everything we believe in! All that you have worked for has no meaning anymore and I will no longer be your daughter!" Guthrum:(*he lifted his head*)"Yes, I will convert to Christianity and I agree with everything you just said!...(*Darina's face dropped*)...but please don't leave me, Darina! You are my only daughter and I couldn't bear to lose you..." Darina:"It's just too bad that you don't have a say in this decision!...(*tears rolled down his cheeks*)...you made your decision without me, so I will make mine without you!"
~~~~~~ And with that being said, she started packing all necessary things and stormed out of her chambers! She walked past a few of her fathers men and all of them shot her questioning looks! But she just ran past them and towards the forge! There she packed all her stuff, she needed to make new weapons and brought everything to her horse Gamma! She stroked her mares nose and packed everything into her homemade. saddlebags! Guthrum reached the stables the moment she rode through the gates and she only heard her father scream her name one last time! A few months passed and Darina was still looking for a new place to stay...it was difficult as she didn't have any money to pay for a room in an inn! Suddenly she rode past the fortress of Dunholm and Kjartan immediately sent two of his men, to ask her, what she wanted in his fortress... ~~~~~~
Fiske:"What are you doing in Dunholm, woman?...(*Darina shot him a dirty look*)...if it's nothing more than you riding by and leaving us alone, you may live!" Darina:(*she tilted her head*)"Oh, and if I ride through the gates and don't leave you alone, you'll kill me, lad?...(*Fiske looked at Tekil*)...why are you looking at your friend so stupidly now? Have you lost your tongue?" Tekil:"Watch your mouth, woman!...(*Darina looked at Tekil*)...if it's Kjartan you want to talk to, just say so!" Darina:(*she laughed*)"Then take me to Kjartan!...(*Tekil rolled his eyes*)...my horse needs water, so if you would be so kind and let me through now!" Fiske:"I'll take you to Kjartan!...(*Darina grinned at him*)...woman, you scare me!"
~~~~~~ Darina rolled her eyes and rode through the gates, the moment Tekil and Fiske stepped aside! Once she led her horse to the stables, gave her mare some water and some hay to eat, she followed Fiske inside! The moment she entered the great hall, all eyes were on her and Kjartan only smirked at her! She nearly gagged, but she forced herself not to...so she sat down and looked at Kjartan! He waited for her to say something, so she cleared her throat and spoke up... ~~~~~~
Darina:"I assume you are Kjartan, right?...(*Kjartan nodded*)...good! I have an offer for you that you will never refuse and for which you will let me sleep here in the fortress, all right?" Kjartan:(*he nodded*)"This offer better be good!...(*Darina grinned*)...can you pay for the room I'm going to give you?" Darina:"I can if you allow me to demonstrate my blacksmithing skills and sell weapons here!...(*Kjartan tilted his head*)...I'm also quite useful when it comes to fighting! I can handle both the sword and the axe!" Kjartan:(*he looked at Tekil*)"Does she have forging equipment with her?...(*Tekil shrugged his shoulders*)...if you don't know, go look it up, you idiot!" Darina:"Your men aren't exactly the brightest candles on the cake, are they?...(*Kjartan shook his head*)...then at least they have a resemblance to the men where I come from..." Kjartan:(*he took a sip of his ale*)"And where exactly are you from?...(*Darina lowered his head*)...is that something you can discuss over a few mugs of ale?"
~~~~~~ Darina cracked a slight smile and nodded! Kjartan in return smiled as well and told Fiske to bring them both a mug of ale! After a while Tekil came back and told Kjartan, that she had forging equipment with her! Kjartan rubbed his beard, before he took another sip of his ale...then he stood up and walked over to where Darina was sitting! She took a quick sip of her ale, before she looked up at him and tilted her head...she had absolutely no idea, what he was trying to do! He pointed towards the door and she quickly understood, that it meant she was to follow him outside! So she stood up and went after him...he was quite fast and she had struggles to keep up, as she didn't know anything here... ~~~~~~
