"I am trying this," Chuuya warned, "One summer!"
"Ah, but it's exiting, isn't it? I'm glad you're here."
Chuuya turned away, embarrassed.
"Why do I have to wear this stupid thing again?" he complained, finally giving in and letting Dazai tie the apron on for him.
"It's customary for all volunteers!" Dazai said, pulling it tight and tying a knot.
"I've never seen you wear it while working."
"Well I'm irresponsible, don't follow my bad example."
"Well, aren't I glad you're training me, then?"
Chuuya huffed in annoyance.
"Now, it's only your first day, so I'm gonna have to train you! I'll teach you everything I know about caring for the animals," Dazai explained, "But first, I want to show you something. C'mere."
Dazai grabbed Chuuya's hand and whisked him into the back room, making the redhead flush at the touch.
What was wrong with him? Why was this happening?
How did I get here? Why is he making me feel these things?
Chuuya wasn't quite ready to resign to the fate of feelings, he would go on fighting a little longer.
He followed behind Dazai as the other dragged him, and soon found himself standing beside the brunette in front of a rather large birdcage.
Inside was one single crow, a little splint on his wing.
Chuuya's eyes widened.
"Is it-"
"Yup. It's your bird. He's probably gonna get that splint off soon. Yosano says it's healing nice enough."
Chuuya set his fingers against the cage, making sure not to poke one in and get bitten. He stared at the bird, and black beady eyes stared back.
"Oh, and you were right! He's a boy, this one!" Dazai said cheerily, "You were calling him 'he', remember?"
