Melanie returns home from being with Gina, and makes her way to her bedroom. Her father stops her. "Hey, sweetie. How was your day?" he asked, smiling brightly. "Fine. Where's mother? I thought she'd be immediately yelling at me to build a teleporter or get into college already." Melanie said, already feeling pissed from just the thought of her mother. Melanie's dad frowned. "Sweetheart... Me and your mother haven't been on great terms lately." he replied. "What do you mean?" Melanie looked up at him in confusion. "I've seen how much she's been pressuring you to be perfect and like the most smartest person on the planet, so I asked her to dial it down and we got into a bit of an argument. So, she's spending the night with her mother. And she'll probably be staying there for a little while after this." Melanie's dad explained. "Oh. So.. Are you two gonna get a divorce?" Melanie asked. "..We don't know, sweetie. But we haven't been very affectionate with each other anymore." he said. Melanie sighed. "For the best, anyways." she said before walking into her room. She slammed the door and locked it, immediately putting on some metal/alternative music. She layed in her bed, her mind a huge mess. She couldn't think about one thing at a time. What's gonna happen if her parents get divorced? What if her mother gets full or at least some custody? What if pushing her father away makes her grades fall? What if people start to think she's some weak softie? What if... But then her mind went to Heather. Melanie sat up and looked around her room. Clothes were everywhere, inventions and little pieces of metal and wires were scattered around the floor, half of her machines were now broken from either her not using then correctly or her breaking them during a mental breakdown. Nonetheless, her room hasn't been the same since elementary school. Melanie hated living like this, but she wasn't mentally healthy enough to clean it up. Was getting with Heather going to make her trully happy for once? Would Heather be able to fix her. No, it's too embarrassing.. Dating my enemy that I've had for almost all my life? I should probably just stop getting advice from Gina and start hating them again. She thought. She couldn't stop pondering whether she should give up on everything again and make things go back to normal, or have a chance of finally feeling true happiness through someone she loves? She layed back down, feeling too tired to deal with all of this right now. "Melanie! Someone's here for you!" Melanie heard her dad call out. Who would be here for me? She thought. She got out of bed and walked into the living room. Heather was talking to Melanie's dad before turning to face Melanie herself. "Hey!" Heather smiled. No. No, no, no, no, no. Melanie thought. She internally panicked, not knowing what to say or do. Who was behind this? Gina? Is this some sort of sick joke? Were Heather and Gina just pranking her and doing this to make it worse? "Uh. Hi.." Melanie managed to get out. "Gina told me to come here to get to know each other better! Gina would've come but she said that she's busy. I already kinda know you, but I wanna know more of your interests and stuff! Hopefully it's not all nerdy, heh." Heather chuckled. Melanie laughed awkwardly, and for a bit too long. "Well.. Uhm. I really don't want anyone in my room right now." Melanie said, basically telling the truth. She was embarrassed of her messy room, and doesn't even let her dad come in. "Why? How bad can it be?" Heather asked, heading into the direction of Melanie's room. Melanie thought she could stop Heather by the time she got to Melanie's bedroom door, but she remembered she left the door open at the last second. She ran over to Heather as fast as she could, but it was too late. Heather had already seen how big of a mess Melanie's room was. She was getting ready for Heather to make fun of her for it, but that never came up. "Wow, it's messy in here. Not as messy as my room though." Heather laughed as she sat on Melanie's bed. "Woah, are you playing Mitski?" Heather asked, looking over at Melanie. "Yeah..?" Melanie replied. "I love Mitski! She's the best!" Heather said enthusiastically. "Really!?" Melanie smiled. "Yeah! Her music is so good. It's really sad, but sad songs just hit harder." Heather said. "Exactly!" Melanie yelled, feeling like her heart was about to burst out of her chest. They both began to talk about about their interests. Music, games, hobbies, etc. Turns out that they both like a lot of the some things, mostly music. Melanie felt herself grow more and more attracted to Heather, and had to use a lot of strength and energy to hold back from just blurting out "I love you" randomly. Soon, Heather has to go back home, and Melanie was pretty upset. Heather was about to walk out the door before she stopped and looked at Melanie. "Hey, do you wanna join us in our treehouse tomorrow? I'm sure Gina will be fine with it, and I'm the one asking to I'm obviously fine with it. What do you say?" she asked. Melanie's eyes lit up with excitement. "Sure..!!" she said, trying not to seem too enthusiastic, even though she was internally screaming. "Great! See you tomorrow!" Heather smiled before walking out the door. Melanie closed it and went back into her room. She got changed into her pajamas and got ready for bed. She put on some more Mitski music and layed down in her bed. Your smile... She thought. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Melanie smiled to herself before closing her eyes and falling asleep, happily thinking about Heather as she does.

AAAAHHH TY FOR READING THIS FAR INTO THE STORY!! idk why but i feel so happy all of a sudden after writing this- but I hope you liked it :D
I'm planning on making the next chapter have some angst so beware >:} but if it doesn't have angst then i must've just changed my dumbass mind lmao.
In other news Melvin is so me tbh- we are both mega uber autism i can just tell that he is. Bro deserves more respect on the show tho like i get that he can be an asshole but that's because he has no friends and people were assholes to him first. Also the reason why I made Melanie's parents get a divorce is because I hate Melvin's dad with a burning passion. All he talks about in that one camp episode is a teleporter or smth. Like I can see why Melvin is such a bitch sometimes his dad has such high stakes for him and his expectations are too high. Btw if you made it this far into my rant ily and have a good day, evening, or night. ♡
