Night falls growing cold
Who cares about the past***
The night wind blows cold swaying the leaves and branches of trees around me in a very comforting manner. I am in the middle of the forest near the motel drowning my sorrows away in a bottle of the local community beer. Things would have been much easier if I had never come to know pretty boy he was my biggest problem right now. Talking to the trees whispering to the earth while screaming at the moon none of that seemed like it was healing my already broken heart. I was wearing my heart on my sleeves for a man who left me knowing who I was to him even when I didn't. My body changed form from a rabbit to a lion and then it maintained my wolf form. Now that I was near the Tivana pack border and the one who marked me was just on the other side my form remained a wolf. With my beer induced mind I howled at the moon cursing at the moon goddess for placing a predicament in my way. I also expressed my hatred towards cupid as he was equally responsible for my anguish he shot me with the wrong arrow now I was an audience in my own love story. Aphrodite is not so innocent too she paired me with someone who wouldn't spare a thought before abandoning me. I was there for pretty boy when no one else saw him through his tribulations yet he chose to repay me in whatever manner he pleased.
I remember his union and that of Constance vividly. How his eyes travelled down the beautiful tall tanned blonde lady who I couldn't even hold a candle too. Unlike her my hair was black not blonde. My eyes were nothing attractive that one would get lost in them. I was a plain Jane who had nothing to offer him. It must be the reason why he rejected me. My sharp ears had the shuffling of bushes accompanied by silent footsteps which could not be heard by the normal ear. It was reflex when I turned face to face with my assailant. There he stood in his proud glory of being an alpha with no clothes whatsoever covering his body.
Pretty boy, no a point of correction this was not the pretty boy I had met years back. This was a man a really handsome man with defined features toned body chiseled jawline and full biceps. He was those Greek gods they forever preached to us in Greek mythology. He was nothing short of an African warrior from my descendants side and he was marvelous. This was not my pretty boy this man who stood before me was Rudolph Tivana alpha of the Tivana pack.
By the look of things he must have come when he had my howl to see which intruder had set foot in his territory. According to what the bridesmaids said he was to receive the alpha title after the first week of his marriage. A month had already passed meaning he was alpha now. "Who are you reveal yourself," his booming voice echoed through the whole forest scaring the birds who flew away the rabbits scurrying away in fear. Ridiculous! he couldn't even identify his own mate. I don't blame him though it must be the alcohol affecting me and messing up with my whole physical being.
I contemplated on whether revealing myself was a good idea or leaving. He stared at me with his blue orbs omitting a fierce blue flame that only those with alpha dominance possess. In lightning speed he took me by the neck and strangled me. "I said reveal yourself," he commanded. His alpha dominance was not affecting me and a smile appeared on my wolfish lips. His hold on my neck tightened and I heard myself say, " Yes chock me daddy." His eyes widened in surprise as he released my neck and I fell face flat on the ground with a loud thud. The forest today must be going through a lot witnessing such intimate scenes.
Having for a moment forgotten his presence I remembered pretty boy was still there. The shocked expression still marrying his features. "You are a wolf?" His question poignant left me wondering what he was talking about when realization struck me. I had spoken, ah, he must have recognized my voice. Luck seeming to have gone on vacation on my side disappointment came crushing on me when I turned into my regular boring human self. Clad in an expensive suit that everyone wears when they are born I stood up pretty boy averting his eyes. With a snap of my fingers a yellow sundress appeared on my body. Another snap of my fingers a white tunic appears on pretty boy's fine body. He turned to face me and the hostility he had before slowly dissipated. "It's you," he whispered. Silently watching the scene before me unfold he took a step forward and I countered with two steps backward. Noticing how I tried to maintain distance between us he stopped. "What's your name?" He asked. The power to speak had suddenly left my body. My heart clenched in knots as tears blinded my eyes a feeling of sadness taking charge. I don't know what hurt most the fact that the first thing he said to me was to ask my name or where he failed to remember that he hurt me and an apology for the hunting past would suffice.
No matter how I tried I couldn't shake the tears from my eyes and silver droplets dropped from my eyes and he stared at me in amazement. They fell to the ground and every single place they fell a new plant or flower bloomed then wilted. The curse of being who I was. In happiness I spread life in dark emotions I spread death and destruction. In awestruck emotion he watched me not able to form words. "Who are you?" Sadness continued enveloping my heart as every word he spoke was not what I wanted to hear. He should remember. "Why are you here?" Another stab at my heart.
Pretty boy was getting really good in unwinding me. My silent tears stopped and I wiped their remnants on my face. The white handkerchief I had used turned black like everything that I touch when I follow the path of darkness. "You marked me," I stated. Looking for words to justify his actions finding none he opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water. "I..I ...I ... didn't mean to it was a mistake." Memories of our past came flashing before both our eyes and he knew he wanted to and that's why he marked me. "Undo it," I said. His face showing the conflict that was raging in his mind as he processed the words I had said. "I can't."
"How dare you mark me without my knowledge then reject me. When I ask you to undo it you refuse me yet you are married why are you being so heartless. I am not you personal puppet that you can manipulate at your every whim. Remove this bond which made me attached to the man who just walked away from me without any remorse. I was never yours to begin with," I screamed. He looked at me with a look that said have you lost your mind raking his hair as lines appeared on his forehead a symbol of his rising anger.
"I will not unmark you and it wasn't a mistake I didn't reject you I just left. You are my mate and that's how things are supposed to be you are mine," he stressed through gritted teeth. "A man who leaves his mate behind is no man, a man who gets married in the very eyes of his mate doesn't deserve to be called my mate and if you won't undo the mate bond then I will seal it and it will seize being active. You left me and you have another there is no use in dwelling in the past anymore," I said.
I watched him move towards me with his alpha dominance trying to dominate me. He never apologized or looked sorry he isn't even trying to explain anything I was just a pawn to him. When his hand grabbed my arm and he moved his lips towards me I whisked away from his presence and disappeared before his eyes landing on the furthest branch of a pine tree. I looked at him as he turned around to find me but he couldn't see me. He howled in despair and distant howls of his pack members accompanied their young master in mourning a loss they knew nothing about. There was a time I had a home and people who I protected who blindly followed me. They always put their lives on the line to protect mine. They believed if I lived so did they. A lone tear escaped my eyes and it fell on his forehead. When he looked up I was gone with a heavy heart and a restless mind. He still hasn't changed.
