I hate when things don’t go the way they’re supposed to.
I just didn’t understand. I didn’t understand how this plan looked so good in my head, but when it got out…everything went bad. The look in Rakim’s eyes when he told me that I hurt his feelings was enough to make me want to die. I didn’t mean to do that to him. I would never want to hurt Rocky’s feelings. But I did.
Maybe I knew that it would hurt his feelings when I made up the plan, though. Maybe that’s what I was going for. I wanted revenge because he hurt my feelings badly. Not only did he ignore me, but he spoke to an ex-girlfriend instead.
He gave me the cold shoulder because I told the enemy of our whereabouts, and I put all our friends in danger. But I gave him the cold shoulder just because he got upset at me.
He was in the right, I was in the wrong.
I wanted to apologize, too. But I couldn’t. He went back to ignoring me. Although, maybe he wasn’t purposely ignoring me. He and the other guys seemed so busy with discussing Danny and Mango that they didn’t have time for anything else.
“The man could have gone to any hospital in the world. That’s not who we should be looking for, because there are too many options for us to search.” Nast said, referring to Danny.
“So who should be looking for?” Rocky asked him.
“Mango. We need to confront him and get this done and over with.” Nast replied.
“By ‘done and over with’, you mean get our lives ‘done and over with’, right? Because if we go to Mango, the only thing we’ll do is get killed.” Twelvy jumped in.
I stopped listening. I couldn’t see them; I was eavesdropping from Kevon’s bedroom. Jordan was at some nearby skate park, and Benny was in his room. Kevon and I lied in bed, my head on his chest, just talking.
I told him everything that happened with Rocky. He told me not to sweat it, that he got what he deserved. As much as I wanted to trust Kevon’s word, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had messed up badly.
But, the bright side to all of this?
That oil that King gave me worked for both Kevon and I. The little issue that he had on our lips was gone.
“Where did you get that disease from, anyway?” I asked Kevon.
“It wasn’t a disease.” He replied.
“Um…yes it was.”
“Well you make it sound like it’s cancer. It was just a little bump. But I think I got it from playing spin the bottle. That was before you, though.” He smiled. It was so bizarre to smile after saying something like that…but his smile was too pretty to question.
“It would be so cool if everyone at school knew about us.” I whispered as Shandy suddenly crossed my mind. I should have called her when Izzy gave me the phone that day.
“Yeah…but we don’t have to tell. You could be my precious little secret, babe.”
I looked up at him with a smile, and he kissed me softly. I could feel the warmth and affection in his lips as they moved against mine…this was about the hundredth kiss between us. But I only kissed Rakim once. And that one kiss left me wondering and longing for the second one…
“I don’t want to pressure you. I just want to make sure that you have enough for as long as you’ll be here.” I could hear Benny saying as I cuddled into Kevon’s arms. He was asking the guys for rent.
“No problem. I have enough money in the bank to give you know. Twelvy, do me a favor and head down to the nearest bank? You know the information for the account already. Withdraw eight Ben’s for my boy Ben.” Rocky said. I could hear Twelvy immediately getting ready to leave. Everything that was said after that was blurred out by the kisses, hugs and laughs that Kevon and I shared. He almost took my mind off of everything that happened with Rocky.
