aina elquez, once an ordinary human, now a sea spirit, is physically no older than eighteen, while technically she...also isn't much older than twenty. she's been a spirit for only eight years now, and hasn't gotten much practice yet.
she became a sea spirit after she had died due to a sacrifice to the goddess who is now her mentor/superior of kind. the village aina grew up in is under the protection of the said goddess, and ever since she was young, she was taught and trained, along with a few other girls, how to please their protector, as the village's well-being depended on them. the girls are chosen at birth and then trained from then on.when aina was seventeen, she had gotten involved in a relationship with a boy from another village. young and easily swayed, she was ready to abandon her duty as a 'priestess' (which isn't the most accurate word, but is the closest to being) for him. that, by itself was looked upon badly. a few months later, the boy killed the village chief. suspected for having helped him, aina was to be punished and sacrificed to the goddess. and as she was being drowned, her body dematerialized into sea foam.
what those people didn't know is that an older man from the village paid him to kill the chief, in hope that he would get to be the next one. aina turned to be merely an excuse for him to spend more time in her village and plan out the scheme.
however, i wouldn't blame them either, as aina herself had no idea, and even if she did, she wouldn't remember. her memories of her death and events before are very vague. she thinks of herself as guilty and feels immensely greatful to the goddess for having granted her a second life.
unlike a vessel, the spirit rarely has direct communication with her superior. however, their function is similar to that of a vessel, to be the bridge between the gods and the humans. when she thinks more about it, aina realizes that her role now isn't much different from what it was when she was alive.
she has no actual powers, other than to telepathically contact her superior and to dematerialize into sea foam or mist, although her presence by itself gives off an aura of power. the goddess can possess her if necessary, well, she can actually do anything she wants with aina, as she is 'alive' only thanks to her.
standing at 175cm, on the taller side for a female, aina likes her height. with long wavy red hair and fair skin, she is very beautiful. her eyes are a striking turquoise shade of blue, matching her earrings. she usually has a pleasant expression on her face, her eyebrows constantly slightly raised and her eyes wide, giving off a doe-like impression. when she is walking among humans, she often wears silky white dresses.
aina's voice is very soft and melodic, and her choice of words is often praised (thanks to years of being taught how to speak nicely). some poet might even go as far to say that her words are laced with honey, as she always seems to know the perfect thing to say.
kind, and a people pleaser to her core, aina is not someone you can get easily angry at. that is probably why the goddess choose to spare her. though sometimes impulsive, she is good at her core. uncorrupted and benevolent, she can be naive at times. after her death probably not as much as before, as she has built a few walls around her to make sure she doesn't get betrayed again, but once you break those down it is fairly easy to get her to believe anything. she is still yet to realize how cruel people have been to her.
as a sea spirit it would only be fit for her to be a little moody. and though she is timid most of the time, once you get her angry prepare for a hurricane. aina isn't the one to hide her emotions, and it's very easy to read her.she is very charming, and partly due to her beauty, partly due to her demeanor, people easily take a liking to her— she gets quite a number of suitors. even though she isn't a human anymore, she is in no way immune to feelings of that kind, and falls in love quite easily and quickly. not just with anyone though, of course. it is really only a matter of time before she falls in love head over heels for some human and get her heart broken when they die— or if she has more luck she will fall in love with someone who's destined to live longer.
on that topic, she isn't exactly immortal— she could be, but it is completely up to her goddess for how long she can stay a spirit before she dies for real this time. she can also be affected by the goddess losing her power, but aina is certain to not let that happen.not only because of selfish reasons, but also because she feels like she owes the goddess.
