"Are you sure you shouldn't be with Aiden instead? You are his best friend," I blow into my fiftieth tissue before tossing it towards the bin by my bed but it misses, hitting the floor along with other failed attempts. "Nah, he wanted me to make sure you were comforted. Arlin's with him," I pout and snuggle my head into Kaiden's lap further. I feel him cover me with more blankets before rubbing my arm. "He's too sweet for his own good," I mumble. "Thank you for driving me home from school and being here while I snot all over you and talk about my girl issues." He chuckles, playfully vibrating my upper body.
"Anytime, Bubbles. You're my little sister and I always got your back," I smile softly. "And besides, I find girl drama much more interesting than guys. It's more entertaining," I playfully hit him in the stomach.
"No, it's not."
"It's...tragic. We fight over the dumbest things and that dumbest thing is usually about a guy, always. At least you guys fight and make up in the same hour," I trace the designs on my pillow. "It's not always like that, you know."
"Whatever. I just want to stay here and rot until my best friend talks to me. It's been a week and it feels like a part of me burnt out without her," He scoffs. "She got no right to be pissed at you," I huff. "I lied to her. That's why she's pissed."
"What did you lie to her about exactly? Because from what I know is that Aiden been in love with you since we was kids, you guys finally get together and Dylan happens to find out, confronts you in her usual bitchy way, embarrasses you in front of everyone we call friends, and is now pissed about a rule she made you promise her when you were preteens."
"You didn't lie to her, you just weren't ready to tell her about you and Aiden and that's fine. It's not even her business anyway, ya'll date whoever y'all wanna date. She can't stop that and quite frankly, she being selfish as fuck to you."
Turning over in his lap to face him, I look up as he looks down at me with his arms crossed. "I didn't like the way she came to me about it either, but I understand her." Kaiden takes a deep breath, shaking his head at me. "She acts like a spoiled brat and I wish you'd see that sometimes. She's acting like one right now by turning you into a homebody who feels like she can't even talk to Aiden without her getting even more upset. It's not fair to you, Blair."
I sigh, staring up at the ceiling. "Stop making sense."
"So you gained common sense now understand me."
"Okay, but I made that promise for a reason you know."
"Then if she really loved and cared for you, she would've understood your feelings and talked to you privately about it. But she didn't and now she's punishing you."
The hostility in his tone made me look up at him. He looked more irritated with the situation and at Dylan more than I should be. It had me thinking about what was going on.
"What happened with you guys?" I ask with a frown.
It took him a moment before he told me.
"I wanted something serious but she didn't," He shrugs. "But I also think it's because of Ashontay. She basically had a whole romantic honeymoon with her while she was away."
