Liv woke up the next morning to an empty bed. That was almost alarming, but Liv could hear Emily moving around in the kitchen, so, she didn't get too worried. It wasn't until she checked the time on her phone that she became alarmed.
It was eleven thirty in the morning.
Liv had never slept this late in her life, even when she'd finished a shift at six am and fell asleep in an on-call room. She'd always been awake by eight am. Her body had an internal alarm clock it followed to a T. The only thing her body was more on time with was Liv's period, which had been on the same cycle since she was fifteen.
"What the fuck?" Liv whispered.
She rubbed her eyes as she sat up in bed, shaking her head at herself as she kicked the blankets off and climbed off the bed. She ran her fingers through her hair, throwing it back in a ponytail before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
When she had brushed her teeth and looked human, Liv walked to the kitchen. She couldn't help but laugh.
Emily was sipping on a cup of coffee, another cup waiting on the side, and staring despondently down at two bowls of Lucky Charms on the kitchen island. The kitchen itself stunk vaguely of something that had burnt, and Liv could see wet dishes on the draining board.
"Hey," Emily looked up, smiling at Liv. "I made you breakfast. I know it's only cereal, but it's one of the only things I can't burn. You're definitely the chef out of the two of us."
Liv laughed, walking across the kitchen and over to Emily. Emily wrapped an arm around Liv's waist, kissing her forehead as Liv leaned against her chest.
"Thanks," Liv said. "Lucky Charms are my favourite cereal."
She actually only liked the marshmallows, but she wasn't going to tell Emily that after she'd gone through so much effort to make breakfast. Liv didn't mention that she could smell the burning of what Emily had attempted to cook.
"What time are you in work?" Emily asked.
"Supposed to be six, but Jace is probably gonna pick me up about half four, so, we've got time to eat and catch up," Liv said, rubbing her face before leaning over to grab her coffee.
She took a sip and smiled, looking up at Emily.
"You didn't burn this like whatever you tried to cook," Liv said, kissing Emily and moving over to her cereal before Emily could process it.
She sat down at the island, swinging her legs on the seat as she picked up her spoon, weaving it through the cereal to scoop up the marshmallows. Liv's phone beeped in the other room and Liv rolled her eyes, moving to get up.
"I'll get it," Emily said.
"Thanks," Liv smiled.
Emily headed to the bedroom, then returned and handed Liv her phone. She sat down opposite her, picking up her own spoon to eat her cereal.
Julian:
Addams wants to know if you'll swap shifts with him.
He'll work your 6pm-6am tonight and you'll do his 6am-6pm tomorrow.
Liv:
Can do :)
She moved onto Jace's contact.
