"He stole my girlfriend!" They both accused in synch, turning to glare at each other as they realized their simultaneous talk.
"I did not!" They both shot back, glaring daggers.
"Stop talking at the same time!" I intervened, standing up between the two who looked about ready to start swinging punches.
Their jaws clenched, their anger tuned in synch, both awaiting their turn to accuse the other.
"Alec, you start," I began, turning toward Alec, though I could almost feel Chris gaping and glaring at me from behind, "what happened?"
Alec took a deep breath, steadying his anger, "Chris," he took another breath, jaw tightening, "stole my girlfriend, who was also the first girl I've ever fallen in love with."
I momentarily turned toward Chris, jaw dropped, how could he do that to his younger brother?
Chris narrowed his eyes, looking betrayed and enraged, "that is not what happened!" He protested.
Alec scrunched his face in slight disgust at his brother, "ya, it was."
I messaged my temple, resisting the urge to slap them both, they were seriously getting irritating with their constant back and forth.
"Ok," I began slowly, "how did he steal your girlfriend?"
Alec exhaled, jaw clenched to the extent that it seemed he might break it, "so, this girl; Rebecca lindale, and I went to home-coming together and I asked her out the next day. She accepted and we planned to got out to the movies the next week. Though at the time I didn't have my drivers license so Chris said he'd drive us."
I nodded, not yet seeing the conflict, "and?"
"And when we got there I asked to use the bathroom and when I came back out I couldn't find Chris or Rebecca anywhere so I wandered upstairs where I found them making out, I fled the scene, to hurt by my own brother to go back and confront them. She never talked to me again." Alec finished, a death glare radiating his face and directed at Chris.
Chris looked taken aback, whether or not the look was genuine was yet to be determined by his side of the story.
"Ok, first off, yes I kissed her, but it wasn't my fault," Chris began, arms raised in mock surrender.
Alec cut him off, "oh of course not! Cause you're just so damn perfect all the time!" Alec raged, hatred shining in his eyes.
"She kissed me!" Chris yelled over his brothers mocking tone.
I grimaced, sensing the eminent fist fight, stepping between them once more I turned toward Chris, "ok, how'd it happened by your side of the story?"
Chris scoffed, "Rebecca was lying to him because she liked me. Sure, she went to homecoming with him, but she called me and told me all about how much she liked me. I, of course, didn't tell her how I felt of her for the sake of Alec, who was head over heels for her."
I raised an eyebrow, feeling like a cop executing an interrogation, "then how'd you end up making out?"
Chris grimaced, "when Alec left for the bathroom, Rebecca told me she needed help putting on a necklace in her room, but that she wanted me to do it so she'd be ready when Alec got back. I said I'd help her and we went up into her room. I put the necklace on her but she turned around and started kissing me-"
I interjected, "did you kiss her back?" I asked, genuinely curios.
Alec crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow, "hell ya he did, you should've seen the two."
