Chapter 14: Practice Match With Nekoma

Kuroo took big strides toward Karasuno's captain. Sugawara let out a small laugh before placing his hand on (Y/n)'s shoulder, "You seem to be acquaintance with half of them already". She made a peace sign with a playful wink, "We're having a match with each other so of course we need to know each other", she looked at Kuroo who was still talking with Daichi. When their eyes locked, he jokingly winked at her, making the girl stifle a laughter. Sugawara and Daichi who noticed it, didn't like it one bit.

She turned around to jog over to Shimizu, "Kiyoko-senpai, can I have my phone for a bit?", she asked with a smile. The older female nodded and smiled as she checked her carrier and took out her phone, "there you go". "Please be quick, okay? The match is about to start", Shimizu smiled at her, making the younger girl smiled brightly, "no prob~", she checked her phone and pressed her lips together before replying to Hinata's message.

She closed her phone and gave it back to Shimizu who was studying her expression since the beginning. "both Shoyo and Tobio aced their supplementary exam, they're probably heading to us as we speak", she gave her an eye-smile before walking away to her teammates for the briefing with Coach Ukai. 'He's quite different', she shook her head and looked at Yachi, "let's go, Hitoka-chan".

"Remember not to rely on (Y/n) too much since he will be in this match as a middle blocker with Tsukishima, Karasuno isn't a one-man team, we're only strong if we're together", Daichi announced as the captain of the team with a stern voice. 'My first ever match with someone of my age', she thought with excitement building in her mind making her heart beat fast, 'calm down (Y/n), you need to assess their plays so you can beat them properly'.

"Karasuno! Fight on!", the team cheered. The first match was between Nekoma and Karasuno, while Ubugawa will fight against Fukurodani. (Y/n)'s jersey number is 13, and it makes her happy that she's part of the team. (Y/n) was standing across of the new member from Nekoma, Haiba Lev. He was very tall for a first-year, she thought. She pouted to herself as she herself was a half-half similar to Lev, but her height was just the average girl height in the Netherlands. However, she couldn't help but felt like she had seen him before.

"We're both middle blocker, (Y/n)-senpai, so it's a fight between you and me", Lev initiated, "and I'll be the ace in this team". She stared at him as her blue contacts glistened, "are you sure, Lev? Senpai nice serve!", she yelled out as Daichi started to serve. As the ball pass over her head, she immediately take two steps back and watched as Yaku received it perfectly and tossed it to Kenma. Kenma tossed it to Yamamoto. (Y/n) dragged Tsukishima by the back side of his jersey to where Yamamoto was, "1, 2", and the two blocked Yamamoto's spike, but since (Y/n) readied her arm for a block kill, she was able to score the first point.

She smirked while looking at Lev, "do your best Lev", she taunted. In return the taller male, furrowed his brows together before smirking back. After continuously and successfully blocking from (Y/n)'s side, she had finally rotate to the back where she started to serve.

She scanned the back row of Nekoma and saw Yaku and Fukunaga. She took a few steps back and hold in her breath as she threw the ball in the air and serve the ball, the ball was fast and heavy as it went past Yaku and landed at the edge, scoring a point. She had scored a service ace, making her teammates cheer. Nekoma team were flabbergasted. "Oi oi isn't he just a middle blocker?", Kuroo scoffed as his eyes were glued to her, "Yaku and Fukunaga, get to the back more", he instructed.

(Y/n) being able to read mouth, noticed what he mouthed to Yaku and Fukunaga. She diverted her attention back to the ball and took deep breath before smirking, this time she targeted between Fukunaga and Yaku, making them halted midway as they didn't know who was going to received it since the ball was in the middle.

"Darn it", Yaku cussed under his breath, "sorry Fukunaga, I thought it was my ball". Fukunaga just nodded his head before focusing back to the third serve. Both Coach Nekomata and Coach Naoi were surprised, 'is it luck? Or is he that capable?', they thought as they awaited for her to serve.

She looked at Yaku and smiled before targeting him with power serve. Yaku knew he was being targeted but the serve was powerful to the point that his receiving was off as the ball hit his arms and went passed it, giving Karasuno another point. Tanaka yelled playfully, "hey (Y/n), give us chance to score too!". She stifled a laughter, "alright then", she grabbed the ball and has a smirk drawn on her face, this time she targeted close the net. She looked at the ceiling for a moment as she heard the whistle.

She used an underhand serve but used half of her power so it won't hit the ceiling and the receivers were watching the ball with strained necks, it was a Skyball serve. She got ready to join in defense as she watched the ball with high speed due to the gravity and shot down right behind Kenma's head making him startled as he was too lazy to look. Kuroo who was next to the setter cuss under his breath before diving in to receive the ball.

He received it and yelled, "Lev! Head on Spike!". Lev hastily took a few steps back and jumped and spike it down, but Nishinoya received it and send it back to Sugawara.

"Asahi!", he yelled. (Y/n) got ready to receive just in case his spike didn't get through, and he scored it. She smiled, "guess I'm serving again".
