Chapter 14.

The days went by and my love for Harry only grew stronger. We still grabbed lunch at the diner after school everyday and sometimes I would stay for dinner at his place. However, I've grown quite distant from Kathy. We haven't been meeting up at the lake like usual. She always had some excuse like she had to study or her parents wanted her to help around the house. We've only maybe hung out once or twice after that time she ditched me to babysit her brother. Harry also told me that Kathy barely hung out with him anymore. Every morning she would tell him she'd meet him at school, but she'll always come when the bell rings, so they have no time to actually hang out. Was she avoiding us? Today Harry and I decided to confront her. Today was Monday so we had math for first period. Perfect. Harry was seated at his seat and I was sitting beside him

As if Harry and I predicted it, Kathy ran into class just before the bell rung, but this time she didn't look as messy as she usually was. I quickly stood up so that she could sit at her seat.

"Hey guys! Sorry I'm late. Stupid alarm clock didn't ring on time.", she said, looking flustered. She was about to give Harry a kiss like she usually did but Harry shifted away. Kathy's eyes widened. I got to admit even I was shocked.

"Kathy, Sam and I have something to ask you.", Harry said with a serious face. Kathy looked at Harry, then at me and gave us both a confused look. But Kathy being Kathy, she thought it was joke and asked," Okay, shoot haha."

I took a deep breath and said," Kate are you avoiding us?"

She went as pale as a sheet, as if we found out one of her secrets.

"W-what are you talking about?", she said tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Come on Kathy don't play dumb," Harry said out of a sudden. "We haven't been hanging out that much lately and Sam says you keep ditching her because you're always busy. You were never so busy before, why all of a sudden?"

"Nothing my mom just thinks I need to help out around the house more and my parents are going out a lot these days.", she said, looking down at her lap.

Harry and I exchanged looks, wondering if she's telling the truth.

"Okay fine," I said "Can we hang out today at least? The three of us after school?"

"Sorry guys I have to help my mom with the chores and I have to babysit my brother tonight, so today's a no-go. Tomorrow is fine though!", she said happily.

"Okay fine tomorrow then.", Harry said, clearly annoyed.

Our bald history teacher then walked in and the boring lesson soon began. Kathy and Harry weren't doing PDA stunts as usual, for once they were actually listening.

Everyone in class were either sleeping or talking. No one really liked our history teacher, he was old and boring. I guess Harry, Kathy and I were the only ones paying attention. After we received tons of homework, the bell finally rang and we were all released from the torture chamber.

"Okay I'll guess I'll see you guys tomorrow bye!!!!", Kathy said, giving Harry a kiss on the cheek and gave me a huge hug, and just like that she was gone.

"I guess we should be heading to class then.", Harry said.

"Yeah let's go.", I said.

The day went by slowly but when the final bell rang I dashed out of school faster than my legs could carry me. I saw Harry, leaning against the hood of his car waiting for me. I couldn't help but smile.

HARRY'S POV

Today made me realize that the connection between Kathy and I just wasn't there anymore. There was no spark, there was no love. So I decided what I was gonna do: I'm gonna tell Sam I loved her. I can't keep the feelings in anymore, I have to tell her. I was contemplating if I should tell her, but once I saw her walk out of the school, I knew, that girl is gonna be mine, I'm sure of it.

SAMANTHA'S POV

We got into the car and drove to the diner as usual. Everything was fine until I realized we weren't going the same way we took to the diner. It looked like we were going to the lake.

"Harry aren't we going for lunch?"

"Yeah but I thought maybe we can just go chill at the lake for a while. You're not hungry are you?"

"No it's fine."

After about 10 minutes we reached the lake. I immediately got out and went to sit on the bench. Harry then came and sat next to me.

"It's nice isn't it?", he asked me.

"Yeah it's beautiful."

"No wonder you like to come here, it's so peaceful."

"And the view is amazing", I said completing his sentence.

For a while, there was silence. It wasn't awkward silence, it was peaceful.

"You know what else is beautiful?", he asked, breaking the silence.

"What?"

He turned his head and looked at me and placed his hand on mine, eyes staring right at me.

"You."

My head shot towards him. Was I hearing things? The only thing I could think of was: This is so wrong.

"Harry, you can't say that, Kathy..."

"Kathy has been avoiding me and she's acting as if she doesn't love me and I honestly don't feel that connection with her anymore. I love you Sam, I always have. I couldn't tell you this because I thought it was wrong but now it just feels so right because I'm not in love with Kathy anymore. I love you."

I was speechless. I didn't know what to say.

"Do you... fell the same way?", he asked nervously.

"H-harry, I've always loved you,", I said. His eyes were immediately filled with happiness, "But Kathy is my best friend, i-i can't do that to her."

His eyes immediately dropped to his lap and his hand left my hand and he faced the lake. I could almost see tears coming out of his eyes. Then I processed what Harry had said about Kathy, she has been a bad girlfriend by not spending time with Harry and she's been very distant lately, and judging by the body language given by Harry during classes, it looks as if he's really not into Kathy anymore. I was thinking of what to do.

My brain just kept telling me:

We couldn't.

It was wrong.

She was my best friend...

But my heart kept saying:

But I love him.

"Screw it.", I said, and just like that I crashed my lips onto his. He was taken aback by my actions but soon kissed back. It was magical, sparks were flying. I've never felt so alive before. Our lips molded together perfectly. His hands traveled to the small of my back and he lifted me onto his lap.

For that one moment, everything was perfect.

After a while, we pulled away, breathless.

"So, what now?", I said, smiling at him.

He sent me a dimpled smirk and said,

"My place?"
