When I finally reached the big air-conditioned mall, I opened the glass doors and strolled in. I saw Kathy already there, holding two Starbucks drinks: Java Chip for her and Cotton Candy Frappe for me.
She knew me.
When she saw me she smiled and ran towards me and gave me a hug, making sure not to spill the drinks. I hugged her back. " Good morning!" She exclaimed. I giggled. "Morning." I said. We began walking aimlessly around the mall. " I woke up with the worst headache thanks to you. I can't even remember what happened last night! You're lucky my parents went on a vacation or they would have screamed at you." I said. She laughed, "Haha, you were so drunk, I had to ask Harry to send you back!" She said before taking a sip of her drink.
I froze.
Harry sent me back. Shit, what would I have told him in my drunk state? "Oh... Really? Haha..." I laughed nervously.
" Yeah. Oh! I need to tell you something! Come on! Let's go out of this stinky mall," she grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the huge mall. After a while, I realised she was bringing me to the park that was 5 minutes away from the mall. The park had a spot where Kathy and I always went to and just chill after getting our coffee. That was where she told me she was dating Harry. That was where she personally introduced me to Harry. He's the sweetest guy I've ever met.
Stop it Sam, you can't say shit like that.
There it was. The lake was clear and shining under the beautiful sun. The bench was still under the amazing apple tree that I grew to love over the years. Kathy ran to the wood-painted bench and sat down, patting the empty spot next to her, signalling me to sit down. I hesitantly walked towards her, afraid of what she was going to tell me.
" Okay." She breathed out.
"OH MY GOD! YOU'RE NOT PREGNENT ARE YOU?" I asked, jokingly.
"What the hell Sam? No!," She laughed.
" But something did happen last night though, Harry... He..." she stuttered.
"Oh No, what did he do?" I asked, genuinely concerned. " We... had... urrmm..." " For God Sakes Kathy! Spit it out!" I shouted. " We had sex okay!" she screamed.
My mind filled up with questions.
What? How? How could she?!? But I couldn't blame her. She didn't know about my little crush for Harry.
Scratch that.
HUGE CRUSH.
"What? When?" I asked after a few awkward minutes. "Before he dropped you off at your house. He dragged me up to the room and well..." She looked at her lap, playing with a loose thread of her shorts. "Did you want him to... you know? I asked, still shocked by the news.
"Well yeah! of course! It was awesome!" (<-LOL) I was STILL shocked. I mean I didn't know what to say. My best friend just lost her virginity to a boy I've loved since god knows when. " Well that's good then," I said, faking a smile, completely heartbroken.
" Yeah it was fun," She sighed, slouching back onto the bench. " I saw you and Luke dancing last night... Are both of you... you know seeing each other?" She said, with a devilish smirk.
" Hell No! I'm not really interested in anyone at the moment," I lied.
" Well, you're 16. You're gonna have to find someone sooooon." She nudged my shoulder. I faked laugh, hoping she would buy it. I took a sip of my coffee.
Thoughts of them being together, sleeping together, raced through my mind. I shook my head, thinking that will get the thoughts out of my head. I stood up and said," Sorry Kathy, I'm not feeling too well, it's probably the hangover from last night. I'll make a move first. I'll call you bye." " Wait at least let me walk you back?" "NO. I mean nah it's fine I'll see you in school tomorrow." Trying to hold back the tears, I literally ran back home, trying to run away from the truth.

After kicking my shoes off, I ran into my room, slamming the door behind me. I cried my heart out, I felt myself slowly drifting to sleep, the last thing I remembered was repeating the words that I know were true:
He'll never be mine now.
