Y/n's POV

"Rye, put that down," I exclaimed, gently moving her away from the electric socket. "You know you're not supposed to be playing with that." Despite having thoroughly baby-proofed the house, I remained vigilant to ensure their safety.

The twins were on the verge of turning one this month, yet their mischievous behavior was already in full swing. If they were this rambunctious at one year old, I couldn't help but wonder what their terrible twos would entail.

"Dada bye bye," Rei chimed in, catching my attention.

I raised an eyebrow. "Where are you going?"

His response was a little unsteady as he muttered, "I go dada."

Chuckling softly, I pressed further, "I know you're going, but where are you headed?"

Rather than giving a clear answer, he simply stumbled away. It was incredible to see them both walking and even attempting to talk at such a young age. All those conversations and interactions during their infancy seemed to be paying off now.

"What would you like to eat?" I asked, placing Rye in front of their designated food chart. Allowing them to choose their meals was my way of fostering independence; after all, I was determined to raise intelligent and self-assured children.

"Nana," Rye responded with enthusiasm.

I nodded, a smile playing on my lips. "Bananas, and what else?"

"Waffy," she added, her tiny voice ringing with determination.

Leaning in, I continued, "Do you want anything to drink, my love?"

"Oter," Rye replied nonchalantly.

I chuckled, correcting her, "You mean water, baby."

She gave me a noncommittal shrug before toddling off towards the ball pit.

It had been two months since I had taken on the responsibility of caring for them. Ryan was away on vacation, but she would return just in time for their upcoming birthday party this week. I found it kinda crazy that I had managed to keep both them and myself alive and well during her absence.

Life had been relatively quiet, except for the fact that Kim was now four months pregnant. Her growing baby bump was unmistakably noticeable, and she didn't seem to make any effort to conceal it either.

The reactions from our families when we shared the news were nothing short of...yeah something.

......

LAST MONTH

We were at my house, with both Kim and my family gathered together. We had made the decision to reveal the news to them before Kim's pregnancy became visibly apparent.

We were confident that Kim's family would take the news well, and I had a feeling my family would too. However, I couldn't help but anticipate my mom's reaction—her speeches were what you'd expect from a black mom after their kids missed a church, and I was sure this occasion would be no exception.

As we all gathered, Kim's discomfort became apparent. "I feel nauseous," she admitted, her expression uneasy.

Concerned, I suggested, "Do you want to step outside for a bit?"

She shook her head. "No, I think I'm just a little nervous."

Reaching for her hand, I reassured her, "It's perfectly normal to feel nervous. Just remember, I'm right here with you."

Her eyes met mine, a small smile forming on her lips. "I know, baby."

.......

"So, what's the big news?" Kris inquired, curiosity evident as we gathered everyone inside the house for our announcement.
