CHAPTER FOURTEEN

“Haven’t you given her enough of a tour around the forest?” Damien’s sudden voice startled me to my core, I came out of the haze of my own chain of thoughts and confused feelings, I moved my head to find him standing a foot distance away from us, looking quite vexed as he put up an act to pull his wristband up in order to avoid letting us see the anger building in his chest, “If not, leave it on me, I will take her from here,”

“We were just talking,” Hardy fended sternly.

“Talk? In a place full of wildness? It is very smart of you to bring her here,” He taunted, taking a step forward in my way.

“For your information, I am carrying a gun in case anything happens, I will protect her,” Finding no hesitance in his voice, the hair on my body stood up in another recognition that I perhaps have one more person other than Damien who cares about my safety. The craziest part was they both are bloodthirsty of each other, sworn enemies were the perfect title.

“It doesn’t change the reality that you shouldn’t have brought Ishita here in the first place if you really ‘care’ about her protection, oh, my bad, I forgot you are damn smart aka stupid as fuck,” Damien didn’t hold a bit of his sarcastic taunts while flashing the veil of fury.

“If you stop trying to keep an eye on us like a Surveillance camera whenever I talk to her, I wouldn’t be compelled to seek a place much safer and far from you,” Hardy retorted. Their talk already took a turn into a heated argument.

“From which angle this fucking woods looks safer to you? Either you must be blind or baffled,” Damien gritted his teeth hard that the sound of them clicking together made me wonder how they haven’t been cracked or fallen off their roots.

“I am an inspector, Wlyder, watch that tone of yours, ” Hardy warned, as he stepped in front.

“Or what, officer?”

“Stop it!” I shouted, standing between them, I placed one hand in the middle of Damien’s chest and the other one slightly below Hardy’s right shoulder, pushing them away to form the distance they threateningly trying to close when they calmed down a bit, I moved to look at Damien, “Please, don't worry, I am fine," I assured him.

Capturing a glimpse of my face, he signed and backed off, I turned to see Hardy, he already raised his hands in surrender, mumbling out an apology.

"We should get out of here," Damien muttered with concern concealing his tone.

Hardy opened his mouth to protest but shut it as quickly, "You go with him, Ishita, I'll be back," Hardy requested, giving us a hint that he is spending a bit more of his time here to clear his mind.

Damien offered his palm to me, I hesitantly accepted, throwing a glance back at the inspector who gave me a soft nod. I began to walk with him, his hold was tightly secured on my hand as if he was afraid that I would get lost if he lost his grip on it. What bothered me was the silence we had between us.
