The Lunar Cave

"If you really want to race, then we can. But you have to promise that I can have a ten second head start and Fox gets ten more seconds because you're way too quick for us!" Samus sighed. The trio, alongside Bulbie, Charmander and Squirtle (who were all outside their balls) had arrived on Route 3. They had stopped at the Poké Mart on their way there to buy some Poké Balls and healing items with the money Mewtwo had given them.

"Fine," Falcon replied. He'd had another coffee at the Pokémon Centre before they left Pewter City and was feeling energetic.

"You think ten seconds is enough?" Fox asked.

"Go. It'll be fine. Squirtle, you ready?" Samus responded.

"Squirtle!" it smiled. Fox picked up Bulbie and ran to the east.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, let's go Squirtle!" Samus said and she picked up Squirtle and ran east.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one..." Falcon counted down. Charmander leapt into his arms and he ran along to follow the others.

The three of them made sure to call their Pokémon to attack any wild Pokémon they found so they could build up experience. There was a massive patch of grass that was great for experience farming, as well as being a good place to overtake someone in a running race.

"Squirtle! Water Gun that Jigglypuff!" Samus called out. Squirtle blasted water at the Jigglypuff, knocking it out.

"You've reached me already?" Fox gasped.

"Sorry, you're just too slow!" Samus joked.

"You wouldn't say that if you were in your Power Suit right now!" Fox retorted. "This bird's mine! Bulbie, Vine Whip that Spearow!"

Bulbie unleashed its vines at a Spearow. Spearow also fainted.

Samus ran ahead. Fox followed. Falcon wasn't far behind.

"Charmander! Scorch 'em!" Falcon called out. Charmander breathed fire at a couple of wild Pokémon, accidentally setting some grass on fire.

"Oops..." Falcon continued.

"You've gotta be kidding me!" Samus groaned when she noticed the fire. "Squirtle, put out the fire!" Squirtle leapt into the air and spat water at the fire, extinguishing it.

Samus picked Squirtle up and ran, managing to overtake Fox again (he hadn't got very far ahead, or at least not by their standards given the trio were all very fast runners). Falcon nearly managed to catch up with Samus before she stopped in front of a cave entrance. Falcon stopped just before he could bump into her.

"We raced each other... to a cave!" Samus said in disbelief.

"Why did you two stop?" Fox called out to them.

"We found a cave. Otherwise this is a dead end," Falcon responded. Fox caught up with them.

"Maybe the way through to Cerulean City is through the cave," Fox suggested.

"The map said there was a way through," Falcon replied.

"If you get us lost, Fox, I swear..." Samus added

"And the sun's setting so we need a place to stay for the night," Fox responded.

The trio, still carrying their starters, walked through to the cave. They were met by a short entrance section, which they walked through, before hearing a growling noise. When they reached the source of the growling, they noticed a weak dark blue and white-coloured mammalian Pokémon with a horn on the side of its head being attacked by five pink star Pokémon. Samus held her Pokédex up.
