Cat Noir sat there, his heart heavy as he stared at the gravestone before him. Raindrops fell like tears from the sky, mirroring the turmoil in his chest. He clutched the diary tightly, his fingers trembling as he traced over Marinette's words. Every sentence felt like a glimpse into her soul, a soul he had failed to protect.
"Marinette... Marinette is... Ladybug," he whispered, his voice barely audible against the sound of raindrops hitting the ground. The truth hit him like a tidal wave, crashing through the walls he had built around his emotions.
"All this time, I've never noticed," he murmured anger and regret mingling in his tone. The realization of how close he had been to the truth, yet how blind he had been, stung like a fresh wound. He could hear her voice in his mind, see her in a new light – the same light that had danced in her eyes when she had become Ladybug.
As the rain soaked through his costume, he let himself feel the weight of his mistakes. He had joked, flirted, and fought alongside her, never knowing that the girl he was falling for was the very same one who had stolen his heart as Marinette. How had he missed the signs? How had he not seen the connection?
Slowly, he closed the diary, the words on those pages becoming a poignant reminder of what he had lost. He stood up, his body heavy with grief and a strange, uncomfortable comfort. He had always admired Ladybug, always felt a connection to her, and now he knew why – because she was Marinette.
He walked away from the gravestone, rain soaking his hair and suit, the diary clutched tightly against his chest. It was a heavy burden – the weight of knowing the truth and the burden of the regrets he couldn't undo.
When he finally reached home, he descended with a heavy heart. Tears blurred his vision as he sank onto his bed, holding the diary in his hands. He opened it to the page he had left off, Marinette's words blurring through his tears.
He couldn't bring himself to read more. The pain of knowing that Marinette was gone, that he had lost his chance to know her as both his partner in crime and the girl he had fallen in love with twice, was too much to bear. He lay on his bed, tears soaking the pages beneath his fingers as he clung to the diary like a lifeline.
He wished he could turn back time, go back to the moments they had shared and see them through a different lens. He wished he had seen her for who she truly was, cherished the connection they had, and embraced the love he had been blind to. Why wasn't Bunnix here yet?
But now, all he had were the words on those few pages – a glimpse into a world that was lost to him. He closed his eyes, clutching the diary to his chest, and let his tears fall, mourning not only the hero he had lost but the love he had never known.A/N: thank you for reading!
