A/N: Also on my AO3.

It was a standard typical day in Area 49-B, a highly secretive military base with the main objective of capturing md eliminating any extraterrestrial beings that could threaten Arcadia Oaks and the world. It was a place filled with constant threat of danger lurking in the shadows. One example would be the great asteroid scare that sent the entire town into panic. Though the asteroid was successfully destroyed, it led many to believe that something was odd. Many of its people who worked at the base did their usual work routine.

In the base, there was one location where even the most skilled and advanced were greatly fearful, sending shivers down their spines. And that was guarding the Extraterrestrial Holding Unit, or EHU for short, which was a large dome-shaped facility that stood a little farther away from the main base of operations. And for a good reason. Those who were tasked with keeping guard of the facility were at the highest danger risk out of everything in the secret area. Because this place in particular is where the most dangerous creatures known to humans that had been captured over the years were kept. There they were, locked inside thick indestructible walls made from the strongest metals in the world. So rare, that only this base has the ability to create them. These dark holding cells prevented them from seeing any trace of the outside world. Away from the rest of the population. While they are enclosed, scientists came in every day to perform experiments on these beings, injecting them with mysterious serums while they scribbled down notes on their clipboards. They were all picked and prodded like worthless animals, to which no one seem to care.

Colonel Kubritz was the important commanding officer of Area 49-B, and when anyone saw her walk by, a quick sting of silence followed. No one was ever brave enough to stand down her command. No one. No one dared to mess with her. One tiny glare and the rest would be history. She walked through the dark well-protected halls with a couple of low-rank officers behind her. She'd come to the EHU to see how everything was holding up and for its weekly inspection to see if the creatures were in their correct cells and hadn't escaped. When she arrived, 2 pair of officers and a couple of yellow-hazmat suit scientists approach her with a salute, ready to open the heavy doors. It took all four of them to get the heavy thing open. Kubritz had very little patience with them and did it herself, since she noted that they were clearly way too incompetent to do a simple task like opening a door. She shoves them aside as she finally steps inside the dim room.

"Will someone please turn on the damn light?" The woman grumbled, impatient at the fact that she had to do everything now. "I can't see a THING in here." She looked to the visibly nervous group before clearing her throat loudly. "NOW!" And with that, they quickly moved and flipped the light switch where the area slowly dimmed into a golden tone. A little too bright, but it'll do, she thought.

"Where are the enclosures?" She asks one of them. "I don't have any time for any idiotic games you 4 may be playing. I don't have all day." The petrified group looked at one another before shoving the hazmat-suit scientist forward, unwillingly volunteering as tribute.

"Oh! Uh.. uh, it's right over here, Colonel! Right-right over here! " he points to his left, unable to stop his hand from trembling. He notices that she's got her neurometer in her hand, which makes him even more nervous than before. He quickly turned around around left the way.

She peeks in through the little viewing windows on the hollow doors, nodding in approval when she saw the creatures in their respective cages. "Where is the new specimen?"

"Here it is," Sergeant Costas informs, carrying a large cage holding the specific specimen they were looking for. This creature had been discovered by someone New York and sounded the alarm and was quickly brought in to Arcadia about a week ago.

"Ah, yes. Finally. Specimen 923-SX." Kubritz opens up the cage and moves the unknown specimen to the center of the cold metal table. As she observes the creature, watching for any abnormal changes from the experimental serum, she doesn't wait to express her annoyance toward one of the scientists behind her. "Would you mind not breathing so loud. I can smell your breath."

"Sorry." The man backs out, standing next to Costas.

"Any new developments?"

"No. None right now. We still haven't been able to revive any information about Subject-838FP. We've used a multitude of serums, but nothing seems to be changing. A very unique and mysterious animal, indeed."

"Incompetent yet again," she uttered under her breath. She hoped to one day have more smarter personnel. But they would have to do for now.

Then— a loud alarm starts ringing. Red lights are flashing all throughout the room, and the four people are making their way to the lower level of the dome. She immediately senses there's a subject missing, having to deal with these almost regularly. But now, however, she was absolutely positive that nothing could possibly escape now that they've increased their security to the base and all the enclosures. But, she was wrong. And boy, was she fuming.

"Subject-838FP has escaped! I need all units in the lower level! NOW! Secure the perimeter!" She shouts at the top of her lungs to any personnel that just happened to run by, shoving them to move faster. In an instant, Sergeant Costas calls for everyone, groups of guards and scientists are headed downstairs where the alarms were originating from.

"FIND IT! THIS CREATURE WILL NOT ESCAPE THIS BASE, DO YOU ALL UNDERSTAND?" Kubritz bolts out the door, charging up her nerurometer, ready to track down the escapee. The base was in state of chaos, traffic blocking all the entrances and halls. Soon, the entire base was surrounded by all its guards, weapons ready to fire on sight.

The creature in question was of a unique kind. Scientists were still trying to decipher what special abilities it might have based on its distinct pattern of grey shimmering scales and it's snake/reptile like appearance until now. Apparently it also had wings. Thin little ones like those a bat would have. But the creature could fly an immense distance as guards charged up their neurometers and proceed to shoot toward the subject.

Not long after, Subject-838FP's tail began to glow an immense violet color, stopping everyone in place, unsure of what to do next. The tail glowed brighter as it sent a spark toward the area. An electrifying spark that shook the base, sending waves of energy up into the night sky. The sky received a shot of intense growing pulse of energy,  creating a rift right in front of them, opening a gate to another world. The outside of the wiggly portal had the identical violet ring around the world on the other side as the magic from the creature.

"Portal abilities, eh? You sure are a powerful one." Kubritz sneered, completely oblivious to the creature's new abilities. Jagged violet shards start raining towards them, the crew yelped as they quickly jumped back, barely missing them as it made its point across.

Everyone seemed completely petrified except for the Colonel, of course. A small shard makes a harsh landing on the grassy field where she stood, completely corrupting the small surrounding area into a crumbling mess.

"ACTIVATE YOUR NEUROMETERS!" Everyone outside took the neon green ionic weapons started blasting non-stop toward the creature. It missed every single blast, skillfully jumping past trees and nearby building facilities. This creature was quite smart. Perhaps too smart for Kubritz and her crew.

The subject hisses out a taunt before lunging toward the rift, closing completely once it went inside. The skies were as calm and clear as ever after that. All the personnel is standing with worry as they slowly turn to the Colonel, awaiting a command. They also knew they failed her and let the beast get away.

"What do we now?"

"FIND THAT CREATURE!" Kubritz commands before firing a warning blast into the sky, causing everyone to disperse swiftly. She soon quickly realized that this has become more difficult that she realized and she needed extra help. She needed recruits.
