"Was that a flipping gunshot?" Kate turns quickly to the loud shot that goes further down that alley her curiosity getting the best of her.
Yelena notices this and quickly snaps out of the trance she was in, when she realized that she almost broke her cover.
"Kate Bishop, maybe it's not best to go towards the loud noise. Maybe it was something else like a cat?" Yelena tries, she really tries, because she really doesn't want to kill anyone and have to break cover.
She's got 10 months left on this cover 2 months in, if she blows this now, they'll blow her guts.
"No no Lena I know what a gunshot sounds like that's definitely a gunshot."
She starts walking closer to the noise and a loud sickening scream is heard, a women. Everything in Yelena is telling her to knock Kate out and take her home and pretend this never happened. It is what she is told to do if Kate ever got close to this sort of these things.
Its orders.
Yelena digs into her little red riding hood basket looking for anything she could use for defending, because sure she was ordered to do that, but she was also ordered to keep her cover over everything so that is what she is going to do.
Kate runs into a sprint, Yelena into a jog, slightly trailing behind her. Another curdling scream is erupted and causes Kate to push and go even faster making Yelena pick up her feet as well.
Another gun shot rings out this time directly in her ears, they're close now and Kate continues to pick up her speed as she goes.
Yelena despises the height difference, right now, she can barley see with the giant idiot, the top hat doesn't help.
Any adrenaline running through Yelena was being corrupted with anxiety, because this is a stupid idea. Practically running into gun fire and Yelena was behind.
Sure Kate bishop didn't know she was a deadly assassin who trained for this kind of stuff, but Kate Bishop no matter how many martial arts she took would not nearly be enough for her to know how to disarm a gun quickly enough, right?
"Bro Stand where you are bro!! Put your hands up bro!!" Kate skids to a stop Yelena following, the new voice yelling at them is clearly not confident in his directions.
His voice quivers with fear, he does not know what he's doing. Nothing is more terrifying with a man who does not know what he's doing that is armed.
"Chill.. bro okay? Just let her go."
Yelena steps to the left know revealing the new faces, a middle aged man maybe 40s, hair starting to fade, but what really brought her attention was the bright red tracksuit he wore.
That and of course the teenage girl dressed in a vampire costume held with a gun to her head.
"No bro you don't understand bro. I have to do this.."
Kate dares take a step towards the man and he clicks the safety off the gun causing the girl to let out a cry and Kate to stop whatever she had planned to do.
Yelena could disarm him easily, the problem is the witnesses.
She starts going through her options, she could knock Kate out and go for the middle aged tracksuit but the chances of the girl dying are too high.
She also could go straight for the guy save the girl and ruin her cover.
She was not liking these odds.
However it catches her off guard when Kate maneuvers swiftly close enough now to knock the gun out of the man's hand with her prop (yet still heavy cane). Then smacking his abdomen square on making him collapse in on himself holding the area in pain giving the opportunity for Kate to hit his head in a sweet spot making him fall to the ground.
The three of them stand there Kate staring at the blood left on the cane, Yelena at Kate and the girl staring at both of them.
No one's sure how to react, the tone in the alley was once fear and pure adrenaline but now reality was creeping back and the girl breaks into a sob her body shaking as each sob racked her body.
Kate quick to help her stand before she passes out with how short her breathing becomes and Yelena doesn't realize but she too comes over to help the girl stand and pulls off her hood putting over it over the girl as well.
They call 911, and a new fear unlocks in Yelena while Kates on the phone with the police.
They'll have to make a statement, It'll make it on a record. Yelena would be sent back to the red room, they would kill Kate.
Her options are very littler this time.
Knock out Kate and the girl, take Kate, run, convince her it was a dream.
That was a shit plan.
Somehow though it's Kate who suggests they leave before the cops come.
"I'll take you home like promised there is no need for you to take a statement you weren't even involved with."
Yelena wants to tell her that she more than capable of helping herself, however, this is her only way out of talking to the cops without knocking anyone out.
So she takes it.
They keep walking in silence for what seems forever, Kate deep in thought, and Yelena letting her be.
She almost screwed up everything tonight her emotions getting the best of her. She was surprised she had any left that red room had not already taken away from her.
Some how Kate made her feel all them. Happiness, sadness, love, fear.
All at the same time, swirl in her chest, in her stomach and grab at the string of her heart as though she was a puppet. She wants to be mad, mad that Kate makes her feel this way, mad that she is stopping her from completing this mission.
Mad that no matter what Yelena will never be able to kill Kate Bishop, because if she ever did, she would would die too, and so would the world.
"You were going to tell me something, before you know the whole gun thing."
Kates the first the break the silence and Yelena hums, because it's true she wanted to tell Kate something.
'Kate Bishop, my name is Yelena Belova, and I'm here to kill you. So run.'
If only she had the guts to say it, but like the puppet her heart was becoming the strings pulled hard in another direction.
"I just wanted to know if after school tomorrow you'd like to hang out again. Maybe we can go to the movies or something?"
It's the best alternative she's got, and she prays that Kate doesn't think too much of it, like it is a date or something.
Kate grins that stupid toothy grin she does whenever she gets all giddy excited for something.
"Sure. After school. Maybe I can show you around Central Park too, get some coffee and picnic out in the beauty of autumn before going to see something in the theater?"
There Kate goes making small plans into big plans, Yelena would never admit it to her, but she enjoyed the adventure the girl gave her everyday. It was like breathing in a new air one that was not corrupted by the red room.
"Sounds like a plan Kate Bishop. This is where we part. I will see you tomorrow."
They say their goodbyes any awkward tension of the night leaving their minds, and as Yelena walks to the front porch of her safe house, she can't help but feel a tinge of excitement for another day with Kate Bishop.

This is short but I wanted to split the fluffy "date night" up so that we can just have a fluff chapter before I have to break hearts....
