Reader is paired with her seemingly immature captain, Link, for a mission
Step by step, a small battalion of hylian warriors marched their way into the Minshi woods, the sound of metal boots clanking against the dirt echoing lightly through the quiet forest. You were among this troop, following closely behind your leader as you were within the first row. You marched in line with the rest of your fellow soldiers, keeping your eyes out for any dangers that could come your way.
Best your eyes be guarding since your leader's didn't seem to be.
"I'm sure most of you have been in these woods before, as you know this is the road to the Great Hyrule Forest. The home of the Great Deku Tree." Link extended his arm and gestured towards the isolated, fog filled forest just ahead. "Which just so happens to be where we are headed. Her highness has been receiving reports of monsters hiding in the forest, and our job is to eliminate as many of them as we can."
He looked over his shoulder at his group; more specifically you.
"Does anyone have any questions or concerns?" He asked, but when no answers came to him, he nodded firmly and looked back to the path ahead. "Good. Now, once we reach the entrance, I am going to split us up into groups. Each group will have a trusted leader that will carry a torch, and we will then scatter. These woods are incredibly dangerous, so I want you all to keep your guard up. At all times."
You peeked over his shoulder, and you could the path narrowing ahead, signaling the start of the path between Minshi Woods and your destination. Finally, you hoped, you'd be able to part off with a group where you would be in charge and able to get your job done much faster. Of course you thought Link was a perfectly fine warrior. He was the hero of Hyrule, after all.
He just didn't seem to feel threatened by deadlines or time limits.
"Here we are, the Great Hyrule Forest." He grinned as he looked around at all of the old trees surrounding you, and he took in a deep breath through his nose before releasing it from his mouth. "I'd remember the fresh smell of this forest anywhere." He turned around to face his soldiers, and he held his hands together behind his back. "I have so many stories about this place I wish to share with everybody." You quietly huffed. Of course he did. "But they'll be better once we've finished our goal and reached the center safely. I am going to split you all into groups now." Finally.
He studied over his troop, carefully eyeing each and every warrior. He nodded, hummed, nodded again, and at last cleared his throat and grabbed some torches from the nearby wooden post.
"I would like Liam, Corran, Mila, Shyn, and Ren to come up." All five warriors stepped forward, and Link handed each of them a torch. Leaving one left. "Now to decide your groups... let's make this interesting. Everyone who had waffles at the group breakfast today, go with Liam." Six warriors joined Liam. "Everyone that is related to a hylian captain, go with Corran." Seven warriors joined Corran. "Everyone that didn't finish their annual forms yet, go with Mila." Five warriors joined Mila. "Everyone who owns a hylian retriever, go with Shyn." Six warriors went with Shyn. "And finally, everyone who does not own a weapon gifted to them by the queen herself, go with Ren." Five warriors went with Ren. Leaving you.
You did feel targeted after that last one.
"Looks like that leaves you, _____." He smiled knowingly, and you looked around at the empty ground surrounding you before heaving a sigh and nodding. "Well then," He lifted up his torch. "You get to be on my team."
You reached out for the torch, but he held it up and out of your reach. You grunted, and that grin of his only remained plastered across his face as he lead the group towards the lit wooden post. Everyone lit their torches, and then he raised his up.
