His face morphed into shock.
"Wh-what?" This must have really caught him off guard; he didn't look like one who stammered often. "No. No, I do not accept! What! I didn't mean I wanted to Reject you! The mate bond is never wrong; I wouldn't break it."
"No," I snarled, my vision returning to normal, "but you would scorn it. I thought you deserved a powerful mate? Why then do you not want to get rid of this weak one?"
He had the nerve to scoff. "Women and their crazy attention to details! That didn't mean I would just break the bond and walk away. You might end up as a dead weight for me to carry around but such is my pathetic luck."
I actually felt the backs of my eyes burning.
It was shitty that what this asshole said hurt me so much. I wrestled desperately with my Witch, shoving her down every time she tried to rise, abiding by the one rule my parents had actually begged me to follow: "If they know you're a Wolf, never let them know you're a Witch; if they know you as the All-elemental Witch, don't let them know you're a Wolf. And if anyone you do not absolutely trust finds out, get rid of them."
The vampire gave me one last scornful glance. He waited a moment before rolling his eyes and saying, "Shift, we need to go. Try to keep up, would you?"
The douche actually wanted me to follow him.
The fury surged up again like a tsunami. Without thinking, I aimed a swift, powerful kick to his torso that sent him flying and crashing into a tree.
I shut my eyes to hide the fact that they probably had no irises by now.
With my wonderful hearing and smelling, I walked over to where he had fallen and stood over him.
"It was smart of you not to accept my Rejection," was all I could say while restricting my Witch's urge to burn those handsome curls off his scalp.
Before things got out of control, I took off.
I ran at unprecedented speeds, the wind around me pushing me faster and farther. I felt tears slowly leak out of my eyes and I sobbed.
I didn't even notice when I got onto my home pack's lands. I sped to my brother's house, not slowing down till I leapt through a window and into his living room.
I sensed his presence in his study and stalked there as calmly as I could, which was not very calmly. The door was open so I stood in it.
I wanted to kill something.
My brother, Alpha Tyler of the Crescent Pack, stood in the very center of his study, the legs of his wife and mate(who also happened to be my BFF, Cindy) wrapped around his waist.
Something squeezed my heart painfully, and I swallowed in dismay when I realized that this new feeling was envy of my best friend's relationship. I found myself desiring to have someone of my own too, who would be mine the way Tyler was hers. I wanted to be able to freely wrap my own legs around the waist of that vampire.
Just that image made me want to retch, while my subconscious secretly approved of the idea.
Stupid mate bond.
I wasn't even focused on the two anymore, just thinking about that vampire. The air around me wavered.
Something was going to combust soon. I tugged on the reins I had on my Witch, but nothing happened. I was too far gone and my nerves were frayed. My Witch was agitated and angry and wouldn't acknowledge me.
"Help me," I desperately linked to Tyler and Cindy.
"Calm down," Tyler ordered in his Alpha command. My Witch had no choice but to comply as both of their powerful auras rose and crowded the room.
