I stuck my head into a classroom, one of the hundreds there were in Vayana. A lady dressed in purple, the same shade as mine, turned to me, a baby blue orb hovering over her palm. Her class of students, apparently beginners, all tried to replicate the action. A few orbs floated obediently over the palms of the owners, but most were struggling. Lights, each of a different color, swirled around the room in all sorts of shapes. Some orbs were well-formed but unruly, bouncing along the floor or tapping the ceiling like balloons. Laughter and frantic movements accompanied the childrens' attempts, making the classroom lively and interesting. The teacher herself was grinning.
"Hello," she said to me.
"Hi. I was tasked to speak to the new elementals," I said.
"Two rooms down. They're waiting for you."
"Thanks."
I walked into a room, and forty pairs of children's eyes landed on me. "Hello class," I waved cheerfully. The whispers began in the back. I picked up a marker and wrote on the whiteboard,
EARTH, WATER, FIRE, WIND
I turned back. "So, are you all done judging my appearance, demeanor, or handwriting, or do I have to wait?"
The whispers ceased. I had their full attention. Ah, the sweetness and innocence of children.
"Very good. Now, you can call me Miss Melody. I'm an elemental witch, just like you guys. However, why don't we start with a brief overview of all the witch wields?
"Witch wields are divided into physical and mental. (And Special, but that's a long story.) Neither is more powerful that the other. Mental wields include Illusion, Telepathy, Memory Absorption, Dreamweaving, Dreamwalking, and various forms of Stimulation. Depending on the power of the wielder, these can be withstood by a strong mind. Physical wields include Telekinesis, all the multiple types of Wave Manipulation, Enhanced Movement, Healing, Replication, Subtraction, and Elementals. Also depending on the power of the wielder, these can be withstood by a strong body."
"Excuse me miss, what is the difference between Dreamweaving and Dreamwalking?"
"Ah. Dreamweaving is the ability to create someone's dream. You can appear in it, communicate, show him whatever you wish. It's like illusion, only that it is limited to someone's sleep. Though I have heard of some witches weaving daydreams too. In Dreamwalking, you cannot just create what you want him to see; but you can physically tamper with him, sometimes even possess him in his sleep. A Dreamwalker can even train their subject in his sleep. Either way... if a Dreamwalker or Dreamweaver is out to get you, you are in some serious trouble."
"Miss? What were those special wields you mentioned?"
I sighed. "Well I'm not so sure myself. They're wields that don't fit into any category. Personally, I've never met a Special Wielder."
The class erupted into whispers, each probably hoping to be a Special Wielder in the long run. It was a valid hope, so I didn't discourage it. I waited till they had calmed somewhat, then clapped twice, briskly.
"As you can see, I've written down the four elements that govern the world."
A hand immediately shot up.
"Miss Melody, what do you control?" asked a boy.
"Control? None. But I have an affinity to all four."
