Lucinda
Dylan lay stretched out on a bed in one of Krysta's palaces, staring at the ceiling. She was as bright and chatty as always despite having been restricted to bed rest because of the complicated injuries she had sustained.
According to her, the wielders had caught her after they had caught Lexi. She said that they had been making a footage of her while they tortured her, probably using it against Lexi. Dylan had sustained several broken vertebrae and, unfortunately, lost the use of one eye.
Five days ago, she was conscious when Aevran arrived. She said she was shocked to even see him there, but even more shocked by the carnage he brought in the underwater base. She called him a "really terrifying war demon" as she told an admittedly thrilling tale of her escape. He brought her to an opening that led directly to a submarine manned by his lieutenant, Imogen. Then he went back inside to get his mate, and she didn't know what happened after that. There had been an explosion somewhere, and then Aevran had carried Lexi into the sub, unconscious. Aevran had said nothing at all, then took Lexi and separated from them as soon as they reached land. Imogen had brought her here to us, but Aevran and Lexi were still MIA.
Dylan's mate, Rudy, now sat by her, a small smile on his face at whatever they were talking about.
"You good?" I called from the doorway. They turned and smiled, "Yes Luna." I nodded and turned away. I stopped in my tracks at the person I saw in the hallway. Tyler stormed over to me, an irritated scowl on his face. I quickly shut Dylan's door.
"Would you believe this bastard lost my sister?!"
What?
"He lost her?!" I gasped.
"Worse," he sneered. "He left her. Just placed her in some human hotel, waited for her to wake up, and then left. 'And now I don't know where she is'," he quoted with a snarl. He grabbed me and buried his nose in my hair, inhaling deeply to calm himself.
Please don't hear the baby's heartbeat, please don't hear the baby's heartbeat!
Tyler was the gentlest Alpha I had ever met. When his kids were in danger, he became calm, cold, and ten times more deadly. But when it was his little sister in danger, he panicked. To think that this vampire left her alone when she was still weak, in the middle of war, was enough to drive him crazy.
I found myself panicking a little bit as well. I couldn't pull the It's Lexi card now since I had no idea of the extent of her injuries. Besides, the last time I had felt that way, she had been captured.
"I should kill him," Tyler growled. I was feeling a little murderous myself. "But then Lexi wouldn't like it, as much of an ass as he is."
"We have to find her," I said.
"Tyler."
We both turned to the voice. Lexi herself stood there, right in front of us. Her hair was down and freshly curled, sporting bright red-orange dye at the ends. For the first time in months, she was in a dress, her look partnered with the highest freaking heels I had ever seen her wear (which said a lot.) Her face was completely unreadable.
I didn't know quite what to say, and apparently, Tyler was stumped too. She, however, didn't miss a beat to walk forward and embrace her brother. He recovered quickly and hugged her back, shooting me a confused glance.
"Lexi?" He asked cautiously. "Why didn't you link me when you got close enough? I was worried."
She shrugged. "Sorry. Lattis wasn't exactly in the mood. She's a bit... let's say, dormant for now." She nodded to me with a little smile. "Cindy."
