"Its all the way in Alaska!" I tell Noah. "Freakin Alaska"
It's silent. "Did you hear me Noah?"
There's shuffling then he mutters a small "yeah"
"Okay I feel like you're not really listening. What are you doing?"
There's more shuffling. "Nothing just moving away from all the people. You know how it is in this house, always someone around." I nod even though he can't see me.
"So what were you saying?"
"Really? I though you said you were listening." I roll my eyes and plop onto my bed.
"Well i was trying to but I couldn't really hear vou which is why I moved to my room." He points out.
"Well. he wants to out me in a boarding school. In Alaska!" I retell him. "You hear it this time: ALASKA."
"Um..." he pauses. "I don't know what to say about that."
"Well you could say something along the lines of 'what the fuck' or 'screw James'." I tell him. "Either of those would work."
"I'm not saying that last one."
"You are the worst hype man."
"Probably because I'm not your hype man."
"Yes you are. My last one got fired."
"You don't fire hype men."
"Well I do."
"That's not how it works."
"That's how it works for me."
He sighs. "This is why you don't have a new hype man yet.
"You are my new hype man." I don't budge.
"No i'm not."
I scoff "Yes you are."
"No"
"Yes" I argue back simply because I'm bored.
"No"
"Yes"
"No"
...yes"
"No, I'm not."
"You know you're supposed to respect and listen to your elders. So if i say you are something, then you're supposed to agree."
"You're not even that much older than me. Plus you're my cousin, I can disrespect you if I want to.
"Well that's just rude of you."
He scoffs. "I'm pretty sure the thing you did to get kicked out of school automatically makes you ruder than me." Oh he really went there.
"Hey! You're not supposed to hold that against me. I had a perfectly reasonable explanation for doing what I did."
"Mhm cause that totally wasn't just you being bitter about Jaxon."
That one makes me go quite
"Look, I don't care if it was about Jaxon or not. Either way you should really get a hold on your emotions and work on controlling your reactions."
"It wasn't about any of that." I almost whisper then I hang up on him because I'm not in the mood for that kind of talk when I'm already annoyed with James.
Noah doesn't call back. He doesn't even text me.
~~~
Later that day I convince James to let me go back home to pack more things.
