Q U I N C E YThis seems like deja vu from a week ago.
If only I could press rewind and redo every action I made that night than maybe I wouldn't have Maddox Broski hopping to his feet and directly staring at me the second I notice him.
"What are you doing here Maddox?" I say too calmly than i thought i was capable of, trying to keep my emotions and expressions at bay.
I've been an open book before, easy to read from a single glance— heck I've been a book without a cover at all but I knew where that lead me and I am certain I won't let anyone tear me this time around.
"Just passing through town," He replies, his voice matching my coldness though I don't miss the way his eyes scan me from head to toe and I grow warmer when his eyes come back to mine again.
"Okay," I don't dare to move my eyes away from his as I gulp the rocky lump in my throat,"Um— I'll just get going I guess," My ponytail swishes with my movement and my legs take long strides to get away from him and his stare that makes me all kind of fuzzy and confused.
I swallow my saliva as I will myself not to look over my shoulder with every step I take away and because my mind is distracted with all kinds of scenarios, I don't notice that Maddox had followed me to the parking lot until his fingers wrap around my bicep, sending a surge of heat and adrenaline so fast through my body that turn me into protective mode and make me turn around so rapidly that I don't notice it's him until my fist connects straight with his jaw.
"Fuck."
"Shit. I'm so sorry! I swear on God I didn't mean to hit you," I rush out motrified by the horror of what I did.
Maddox rubs at the side of his jaw and I try to ease the pain his stubble prickled into my hand as I rub my fingers over it and take a step back so I wouldn't reach over to massage his jaw.
"I really didn't mean it," I continue, my voice less frantic now as I stare at the ground in shame, "I thought you were some dude that appeared from no where and—"
"Quincey," I look up when he uses the tone that reminds me of my mother when she looks at me with a stern expression. "I said It's fine. I shouldn't have grabbed you like that in the first place and for that I apologize. I—" He licks his lips as he looks away, the slight movement sending tingles to every part in my body and I find it hard to contain myself– to not go over and do the things I've imagined in my head over and over again for the past couple of years. "Are you free this week?" He asks when he finally meets my eyes.
I stare back at him and wait a second, unblinking and waiting to see if he will take his words back or not but then his eyes move over my shoulder and his body tenses.
I follow his gaze and I instantly start walking forward when I realize who it is, "Linc, why have you gotten out of the car?"
"Who's that?" I don't miss Maddox's voice and the hardness wanting to seek it's way out of him as he spits his word out like a dragon blowing flames.
"You just took too long and I got bored, what was I supposed to do?" He shrugs a shoulder his grey eyes moving between mine and over my shoulder toward Maddox.
"Quincey," My abdomen squeezes at the sound of his low and stern voice so close to my ears and the hair on the back of my neck awaken at his proximity, igniting so much of the desire I tried to bottle up for so many years.
My attempt at ignoring him disappears through thin air when he clutches my hand and pulls me behind him. I frown at his back, "What the heck?! Maddox!" I try to free my hand from his grip but he's like a brick dug so deep in the sand and it's refusing to budge.
"Who are you?" He asks again though this time it's him whose ignoring me. I notice the lift in his chin as he stares at Lincoln with all of this intensity and tensness traveling through him like a wave ready to splash over the shore at any moment and ruin the day to the people trying to enjoy the warmth the sun is shining above them.
I grit my teeth as I continue to attempt to free my hand from his tough grip, but my head lifts when Lincoln's sound rises the alarm bells in me, " Me? Who the fuck do you think you are to just go around hurting people like that? Let go of her."
"Or?" Heat ascends out of Maddox and his grip tighten on me making me let a yelp as the surge of pain travels through my body in one shocking moment. "Fuck, sorry Q," He lets go of my hand and turns to face me, worry itching on his exhausted face and the beat of distraction is all it takes for Linc to close the distance and push Maddox away.
"Linc!" I gasp as Maddox stumples to the side, my eyes widening and my heart trashing at the murderous expression that takes place on Maddox's face as he finds his balance and whips his head into Linc's direction.
"Oh shit," Linc swears under his breath. "Fuck, fuck, I'm sorry man I didn't mean to—"
I force the panic away and will myself to move in front of Lincoln, my height shielding his little body from Maddox. I look him straight in the soul and plead, "Please don't hurt him."
.
.This took a little while to put out but I've been preparing for school—(and procrastinating, a lot and I'm not proud to admit that but it did recharge my passion to continue writing this)
Also this book is almost one month old—even thought I've been planning it for the past several months— but I'm so proud.
Ps this chapter is unedited so I'm sorry if there is more mistakes than usual, I'll probably go back in the morning to fix all of those
Ty for ur patient, can't wait to see you in the next one
