A YEAR LATER

M A D D O X

"What are you doing?" I slid on the stool Quincey chose for our new island table and swiped my hand through the icing she was using to decorate my cake with.

She swatted my hand and took the bowl away from my reach, "Just because it's your birthday doesn't give you the right to go around and mess with everything I make. Besides I've made you some birthday Pancakes so leave my icing alone."

"I didn't know you liked cooking."

"I don't, I'm just doing it because it's your special day."

I stood up and walked toward her and because her back was to me she jolted a little when my arms wrapped over her shoulders and my mouth met the side of her head, "I love you Q."

"I'm sure you'll take that back once you taste my food."

I sighed, "I'm sure it won't be that bad."

She hummed before she turned, licked the icing off one of her fingers before smiling sweetly at me with the picture of innocence, "I'll make sure to save some for later."

I was dumbfounded, too focused on how my cock reacted to every little movement and expression of hers, "Save what?"

"Icing. For when we're alone and I could treat the birthday boy."

I raised a brow, "We're alone and I'm not getting any treatment."

She pushed me away, huffing, "Go choke on your pancakes Broski."

"Make a wish!"

I glanced at Quincey's green eyes and my lips lifted into a smirk as I closed my eyes and made my wish before blowing the candle.

This is the first Birthdays party the house have seen in ages and I'm certain that it won't be the last.

Clapping sounds came to my ear and while Q was shouting for her mother to bring the knife, I swiveled my head and my eyes connected with my sister's and I gave her a slight nod before approaching Quincey.

I tapped her on her shoulder and she looked back with a frown, "What?"

I rolled my eyes grinning from side to side, "Relax baby. Come here, help me open some of these presents," Before she could object, I took hold of her hand and led us to the picnic table that was supporting all the present boxes.

"I don't understand— isn't it like bad luck— why are we opening them now anyways?!"

"Sit down and shut up please, I'm just excited."

She raised her eyebrows at me in amusement before her face lit up and she grabbed one of the boxes and handed to me, "Okay, you'll have the honor or opening the first one then."

We went on opening a few presents for a few more minutes until there was a few left. I took one of them and handed it to Q, "You can open this."

"I already know what's in there," She shook the box before starting to unwrap it.

"What do you think?" I hedged.

She shrugged a shoulder frowning as another box appeared under the wrapping paper, "I bet you 23 bucks it'll be a watch."

"Why 23?"

"Cause you've turned 23 duh. What the hell? Why isn't this freaking wrapper budging?"

"Here let me help," She slid it over to me and I pretended to be struggling to remove the wrapping paper while cursing under my breath. "Shit," the box soared through the air with the last aggressive pull of my fingers.

"Please don't tell me you've broke it..."

"I thought there was a cockroach on it—" I stood from the bench and moved to search through the grassy area for the box I threw.

Q sighed, "I can't believe you right now, you're so ridicul—"

"Q."

"I'm opening the last box without you."

"Quinn."

"Hm?" She looked over her shoulder at me, the last box in her hand and a beautiful smile tugging at her lips, "Yes Mads?"

"Oh fuck, this is going to be cheesy. It was Haze's idea to start with—"

"Excuse you," My eyes didn't bother to spare her a glance and instead stayed on Quincey's.

My heart was racing in my chest and my cheeks felt warm under her gaze, my smile uncontrollable, "Will you... will you Quincey Harvey allow me to put a ring on your finger and start calling you my wife?"

She grinned eyes moving with giddiness to our families. This wasn't the most intimate thing where we were sat at a restaurant with a candlelit dinner and romantic music but I knew Quincey wouldn't have liked that anyway and at least being denied in private was better than getting humiliated in public thought I hoped my earlier wish was granted because there was no way in hell I wouldn't bury myself underground if she said no.

"Si!"

"What should I see?" I looked around us, my cheeks felt like I was sitting next to the fireplace igniting inside. My sister was laughing her ass off and Quincey's dad was covering his mouth while her mom was crying. I feared this was all a sick joke, the sound of my sister's wheezing sounded like I was a second away from crashing into another car.

Quinn's patter on my cheek got me to look down at her and I didn't know if I could take looking her in the eyes right now. Not like I could anyway—my eyes were already blurry with tears and I thought I was seeing the galaxy before my eyes when she tipped my chin down so I could look at her, "Mads, you cry baby I was saying yes in Spanish."

"Oh," I swiped my tears away, "Say it again in English, I just need to be sure I'm not hallucinating and that you won't back on your decision."

"Yes. Si. Oui. Ja. Evet—" but I was already pulling her hand away from my face and sliding the wedding band on her finger, handing her every part of my heart because I wouldn't trust no one other than her to toy with it like that.

Her chuckle filled my ear and was swallowed by the sound of cheers and laughs from our family as I wrapped my wife in my arms and held her before the world could pull this dream away from my fingers.

If happiness existed as a person, it would be Quincey Harvey, not just Broski to be but also forever mine to keep.
