Part 12 The Story of the Beginning

The clock showed 2 in the night as the sound of cicadas echoed in the surrounding. Jake was now looking at the girl who was afraid to ask him anything. The little description was enough for her to imagine the whole plot and she didn't want to ask him anything else now. Jake went to sit near her on the bed while Ashley stayed still. "When I met your mom, she was pregnant with you. I reached there after travelling for the third time in a row that night..." Jake began revealing the incidents that happened on the 31st December 2012. Ashley was all ears to him.

"For three days, I roamed here and there to find the girl whom they asked for without knowing where I was. I just thought that this watch have brought me to the year 2022 but as the days passed, the fear of losing my sister caused my heart to lose any hope left inside me of saving her. It was at that time I met Abby near the riverside, the same place where I met you today..." He paused. His eyes were now closed.

Somehow, Jake's voice made Ashley to feel his pain. She was relaxed now and the eager to know more ascended inside her. "Then...?" She asked when Jake didn't utter even after few seconds. Jake looked at her.

"That night I stayed with them and the next day I went to meet my dad..."

"You said that you lost your dad because of them..." Ashley was joining the dots.

"Yes... but then I found that I time travelled to past in the year 2000. My dad was alive at that time and that's why I decided to meet him." Jake replied as Ashley nodded.

"Your dad is also involved in this matter?" Ashley said thinking about what he said earlier. Jake's eyes fell on her and he got her confusion.

"My dad Mr. Manuel was archaeologist who worked for government in finding antique pieces from around the world. While in a search of finding some antiques in Wellspring's woods, he meets those people who were in search of a crystal which they told him, have powers. Powers that are never heard or mentioned in history, which can do magic. My father became fascinated by their revelation and searched with them for that crystal. It was when he was young and I was an infant." Jake described looking at her calmed posture.

For Ashley, it seemed like she was listening a fairy tale which now seemed taking interesting turns. She was totally lost in his words but his sudden gaze met with her eyes and she felt a kind of shiver inside her. Jake's sharp jawline and round face was intriguing for her. It felt to her as if he needed someone's shoulder to cry upon. The emptiness was there in his eyes and all she could see was the glitz in his black eyes that needed comfort.
