Ashley fell asleep after talking with Alena. The sound of cicadas was reverberating in the night and the curtain at the window of the bedroom was flowing with the slow wind. As the noise got silent, Jake came out and sat on the floor, his eyes were at Ashley now.
"Such a cute girl. Why they want her?" He mumbled bringing his right hand to move the hair from Ashley's forehead. Her innocence was clear on her sleeping face. Jake looked at her and suddenly realized the presence of the black watch on his wrist. Lina's face appeared before his eyes and he moved away from there quickly, and went to stand near the window sill.
He had travelled through the time more than thrice that night when Lina got abducted. After coming back from the dark woods, he ported to the year 2000 and stayed there for more than 2 years. Somehow, the time span of his present just passed for 2 hours when he came back to his place. He'd have not believed it if someone else told him about the time travel but all that happened was happening with him.
While standing near the window, Jake thought about the time when he cried like mad man on the streets of Wellspring town. Walking like a mad man, he wandered here and there asking about the girl whom the abductors wanted but at that moment he didn't know that Ashley wasn't even born then. That night while sitting on the riverside, he felt helpless and thought of many ways to end his life but he couldn't.
"Can I sit beside you?" A girl's voice attracted his attention who was pregnant and carrying a bag full of vegetables. Jake nodded and helped her to sit on the stairs, taking the bag from her hand.
The girl who seemed in her mid twenties was looking exhausted.
"I was uncomfortable suddenly, sorry if I troubled you." She stated apologetically. Jake looked at the girl whose face was glowing in the light of the street lamps. He nodded and moved to look at the dark sky.
"I think you are feeling terrible. What happened? Sharing sorrows relieves oneself from the burden of pain." Her soft voice came as a medicine to him and his eyes became wet.
"I am...missing my family." He stumbled through his words and became quiet. The girl put her hands on his shoulder and said, "You seems new here. Don't worry. Missing someone means they are also remembering you in some way. The connection of hearts is stronger than anything else." Her words comforted him a bit.
"Where are you staying? See...I forgot to ask you. Where do you come from? Do you have any business here in Wellspring?" She asked many questions at once. Jake looked at her and somehow felt relived from the tiredness of the past three days. A stranger was comforting him in an unknown time, at least he found someone to talk to.
"I came here to find job opportunities from Frostford." The Wellspring town was new to him and he used to live in Frostford, the city which struck a thought in his mind.
"Oh Frostfort...my husband's hometown is there." Her words came as a surprise to him but he remained composed.
"See...I told you, sharing sorrows can help you. You are like a younger brother to my husband and in this way, you can take me as your elder sister. You are young. Finding job and taking care of family is a great responsibility and I think it is fate that we met today." The girl smiled and took a deep sigh.
Jake's thought was broken suddenly when Ashley's voice came from behind.
"Who are you?"
