Both brown-haired boys followed the black-haired one, trying to stop him because maybe a plan not as disguised as the one they were making would give a good result. Lucas' birthday was coming up on Monday and the other three members of the party had decided to put together an exclusive campaign for him, agreeing that on Friday they would create unique characters to play with.

That designated day was today, and the group had only just heard about the friendly match that was scheduled on the same date as their friend's birthday, also obstructing the campaign plans. To make things worse, training had started long ago, so Lucas knew about it.

By now, the time for all clubs was over.

Mike walked through the halls in disgust, the others barely keeping up with him because they knew what happened when personalities like Wheeler's and Sinclair's collided; all was chaos.

"Mike! What are you going to do with him? Make him tell the school 'thanks, I'm not interested' after they've already announced it?" Dustin called out, placing a hand on his shoulder from which the boy jerked away, grunting.

"I don't know! We already had plans, he needs to fix it."

"It's true. But Dustin is right, I don't think Lucas wants to unplease the basketball club, especially Jason."

"And why should he with us? We're his best friends!"

"Maybe he wants to spend time with his other friends," the curly one interjected, he couldn't help but defend Lucas even if he also felt betrayed, after all, Sinclair wasn't exactly a fan of Eddie.

Wheeler made a grimace mixed of confusion and indignation, observing the other "why would he want to do that?"

Words were not enough for when the named boy appeared at the end of the hallway, talking effusively with the other members of his club. The trio watched him, pausing as the brown-haired boys stood in front of Mike so that he wouldn't start a confrontation.

However, the freckled stood there, still as he watched one of his best friends smile more with the basketball team. He wasn't jealous, he just felt hurt for him. He had spent nights on end writing the campaign, nights with Dustin and Will tagging along with him with ideas and encouragement. And now the dream day had vanished as quickly as a birthday candle is blown out.

Maybe Lucas had found a new place to belong, maybe he had forgotten that there was only room for one ranger in his party, and it was him.

"Mike," he heard, snapping him out of his thoughts as his gaze wandered to the source of the voice, meeting those honeyed hazel eyes that brought him peace. With a pitiful expression, Will understood the sadness his boyfriend reflected as anger. His mind wanted to hug him for inertia but at being in public all he could do was grab his shoulder too, and apparently that only made the other feel worse.

He couldn't even have a consolation. He could see the day when Will would get tired of him too.

"Guys!" Lucas spoke, catching the attention of the three and greeting them with a smile as he approached. Of course, the gesture vanished as soon as he saw Wheeler turn and walk in the opposite direction, being greeted only by the duo trying to figure out what to say.

The hazel-eyed one just wanted to go after him and give him comfort, but he also didn't want to be rude to his best friend. He would have to be casual, and above all, brief.
