Ugh, My Stomach

Sherri's POV

After a great weekend of sledding, snowball fights, and just plain old snow, I was not ready to go back to school. I hate school. Like, I'd almost rather be anywhere else in the world.

I am not a morning person. And when it's early in the morning, I tend to be grumpy, moody, and never happy or excited.

Waking up early sucks. Just as an added bonus, I was sick this Monday.

Hooray. Worst day ever.

So after dragging myself down to breakfast, eating a meager amount of food, and checking to make sure I was dressed, I trudged off to the school bus.

My first period is study hall with Dani. She's cool, even if she totally knows what happened to our other friend Jenny and won't tell us.

So not so cool, but I guess it isn't her 'secret to tell' or whatever.

Morning brain. Ugh.

Normally I ride the bus with Jenny, but since she's not here bus rides get a lot more boring.

As in I've fallen asleep twice on the bus since she's been absent. She's only been absent for two days.

Think about that.

Well, this time I'm not going to fall asleep on th

Sheerrrriiiiii

"Sherri wake up!"

I jerked awake to see a fourth grader (I think her name was Terri?) shaking me awake.

"You fell asleep again," she said, grinning.

I groaned and rubbed my head. I had a really bad headache and I was freezing.

"Thanks for waking me up again," I said.

"I'll tell Mrs Norris you're awake and she can drop you off at the high school."

I glanced out the window. The high school and my house were both on the way to the elementary school. (Our elementary school goes k-4th)

"Actually, can you tell her to stop at my house? I feel like shi-" I cleared my throat, noticing the second graders who were clearly eavesdropping, "uh, garbage."

"Will do," Terri replied.

"Thanks Terri."

"It's Jerri," she said, grinning.

"Oh, sorry."

"Last week you said Nelly," Jerri replied, standing to go talk to the bus driver.

I honestly felt like sh-

I coughed out loud. Geez, I was joking about being sick earlier. Now I actually feel sick.

My bed at home was starting to sound more and more tempting.

The bus stopped outside my house. I waved goodbye to the bus driver and trudged inside.

No one was home. Nothing new there. My mom, uh, never mind. And my dad goes to work early and comes back late.

I kind of wished someone was home today, but whatever. I don't know what I was expecting.

I dragged myself to our couch, laid down, and immediately passed out.

I woke up around lunchtime starving but maybe feeling a little better? I don't know really.

What's for lunch. Cereal again? Sounds good to me.

After that wonderful lunch I checked my phone. Nothing. Makes sense, everybody is in school.

Well, except for Jenny. She's probably at home or something.

I was bored, I didn't feel like going to bed, and I was honestly curious about what's up with Jenny.

So I texted her. Might as well.

(Hey what's up?)>

I didn't expect to get a reply. I mean, my top theories for 'what's up with Jenny' were car crash, deadly disease, or burned all her hair off.

<(not much, you?)

(Wait, is this the real Jenny?)>

<(uh, yeah.)

(Hi! It's been days! What's going on)>

<(not much, you)

Okay, hold on. Is she just skipping school.

(Are you skipping school or something?)>

<(aren't you supposed to be in school?)

(I'm sick. What's ur excuse?)>

She sent me a picture of a noibat. Oh, that's cute, it looks like it's taking a selfie.

(Did you get a pet or something?)>

<(😡)

Okay, um what? I ask her if she was okay, I get a picture of a noibat. I ask if she got a pet, I get an angry face. What are these clues!

(I'm lost)>

She sent me another picture of the noibat, this time obviously in her room. It was wearing clothes.

(...confused)>

<(LOOK AT THE PICTURE)

So I did. Same thing as before. Noibat, wearing clothes, in her room. Standing next to her bed... wait a minute, it was the size of a person!

(How big is that noibat?)>

<(I'm figuratively slapping you.)

Ouch. This is ridiculous. I honestly have no clue what she's on about. And my stomach hurts. I'm just getting every possible symptom, aren't I.

Probably shouldn't have the sleepover at my house. Oh wait, we weren't anyways. Dani had us swap to her house.

(Just tell me.)>

<(oh honestly. I'll give you the first letter.)

<(p)

(Pet)>

<(o)

(Pot)>

<(R u serious?)

(I'm totally out of ideas)>

<(K)

(Poke....puff?)>

<(ooh I should try one of those)

(Aren't they for Pokémon?)>

Okay, my stomach is really starting to get upset.

<(same difference)

I mean, human pokepuffs are a solid extra couple dollars, depending on quality. I'd rather just have ice cream. And what the heck with these clues! I'm getting nothing out of this.

(What do u mean same difference)>

<(now this is just sad)

Okay, I'm grumpy, tired, and my stomach feels like a trash compactor. My nose is running, I'm cold, and I've had enough of this game.

(I give up tell me)>

<(Pokemorph)

I threw up.
