So I figured this time I'd go to Dani's. Her house isn't that far away, and even though it's cold outside, I'm so mad right now I can't even feel it.
I mean, fix her?! What does that mean!
This time is for real, I'm not going back to that. Even if it is a misunderstanding.
Absolutely ridiculous.
I mean-
I mean-
I stumbled down the sidewalk, hot tears beginning to flow down into my cheek fur as I clutched Zinc tighter to my chest. I looked down Craig's street. It'd be faster if I cut through here, but then I'd risk bumping into him.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm fine.
What are the chances we'd interact. It's getting close to when my family usually has dinner, and even though he's weird, he probably has dinner around the same time.
Ugh, this is so...
I sniffed and set off.
Craig's street is weird. About half of the street doesn't have houses- it connects to a really dense forest. I always hated that forest because it's full of freaky bug Pokémon.
Zinc scuttled against my chest and I looked at the clouded sky. It's a good thing it stopped sleeting.
As I had that thought, I stepped right into a puddle of slush. It soaked right through my shoe.
"Really?" I said, looking at the sky. "Can I not get a break?" I choked back tears.
"Shhhhhhut up," Zinc said.
"What?" I sniffed, looking down at him.
"Shhhhhhut up," he repeated. "There are bad things in the trees."
My ears straightened and swiveled. I hadn't been paying attention, but now I heard it. Low snickers, movement, barely held back laughter.
"Well, well, well," a male voice said with deliberate slowness, "what do we have here?"
I saw him in the trees. He hopped down from a branch, followed by two more dudes, both looking unpleasant. Another figure hopped down, and instantly I knew I was screwed.
There were four boys- though three of them had to be high schoolers. The leader was obviously the one with the dented metal bat. He was tall, with short brown hair and pale skin. He was thin but athletic looking. He was flanked by two other high schoolers, both younger than him and definitely older than me. Neither of them had visible weapons, but they were both bigger than me. In fact, aside from height, they were both bigger than their boss too.
Standing behind the leader, a little off to the side, was the lead bully me and David had beat up a few days ago. He still had a sizable bruise under one of his eyes, and I thought about how satisfying it'd been to ram my shoulder into that stupid face.
I didn't feel very satisfied now.
"Hey bud," I whispered to Zinc, "You might wanna dig away. I don't know if you wanna be here for this." I let him slide onto the ground. He scampered and lingered between me and the boys, unmoving.
The guy on the left snickered, and the guy on the right cracked a smile. Only the leader regarded the nincada warily.
"Go, Zinc!" I pleaded. Zinc turned his little beady eyes toward me, turned toward the bullies, and said simply:
"No."
The leader tapped the bully from before with his bat. The coward ran away into the trees.
"You recognize that kid?" The leader asked, jerking his thumb over his shoulder, "that's my younger brother."
