Chapter 30: Fatal Error

Y/N POV:

We now sat in the pelican as it flew to the outskirts of the Demacian border.

Me: "They say this forest is haunted guys."

Iggy: "We've dealt with aliens, what's wrong with a few ghosts."

Me: "They'll probably use the same jamming equipment as last time so stay on guard. Each of you take a flare gun too, fire it only if you need guidance from us, take 3 flares but don't fire them too much to give these covenant out position."

Benz: "So don't get trigger happy. Gotcha."

The pelican landed us on the outside of the forest.

Me: "Godspeed Gentlemen. Switch to proximity voice channel."

Watching them all get off the dropship, me and Marion stayed behind for a few minutes then moved forward. Switching my helmets flashlight, I grabbed my Commando rifle and stepped off the ship and moved into the the forest, the lush green scenery being illuminated by only the moonlight and flashlight. Moving through the trees, I seen a few beetles land on my helmet visor, pushing them off, I noticed one had 2 horns and a blue shell. Grabbing a small vial from my backpack, I put the beetle into the backpack and kept moving. Walking through the trees with a moderate pace, I seen a few bright flares shoot into the sky, signaling they're lighting the way.

Hearing gunshots in the distance, I ducked down into the ferns and moderate grass, moving very slowly now. Peeking from behind a tree, my flashlight barely lit anything as I looked ahead, a dark bluish fog sat around the edges of the forest area I was in and I could see a few green figures walking. The green outline told me it was my squadmates so I started walking in the opposite direction they were. Moving forward throughout the bushes, I felt something hit the tree next to me, my flashlight illuminating an arrow. Ducking behind the tree, I heard another arrow hit it, so I quickly ran out and sprayed my rifle in that general direction. As I ran, I felt an arrow pierce into the armor on my left shoulder, so the enemy must be moving in the direction I'm headed. So doubling back the way I came, I felt a few arrows hit my backpack, so I threw 2 grenades back at them. The explosions moved some earth in their places but I heard no grunts of pain.

Reloading my rifle, I threw the empty mag away and kept moving, the next arrow would catch me by surprise as I felt it hit my right leg armor and a fire blast would occur, singing that part of the leg armor. Ducking behind a rock, I heard 3 loud tunks as arrows that looked like metal rods landed in the ground next to me. Switching to my thermal vision, I seen a heat signature moving pretty fast through the trees and it was moving in a fan shape in front of me now. So I grabbed two more grenades and threw them at the points at the end of the fan and shot at the middle center area. I heard a few grunts of pain and a wolf figure took shape on my visors thermal, quickly switching back to my regular visor mode, I racked another clip in and started to fire at the wolf now about to lunge at me. Being pushed back by the force of the wolf and grabbing its neck, it tried to bite my arm as I punched it with my free hand. It kept trying to bite me as I kept landing punch after punch on its face, it's nose bridge now bleeding a bit. I grabbed my knife from my right shoulder and went stab it but it jumped back and a figure manifested out of the air. The figure had a wolf mask and some fur around the mask, with a humanoid body and tons of fur on it. The wolf from earlier now only had a head floating around the figure. The figures right arm held a bow that looked to made of a branch with flowers on it. Holding my knife and grabbing my pistol, I looked at the two and took a combat stance, my knife gleaming in the moonlight with my pistols engravings gleaming from the flashlight.

Me: "What are you?"

The figure did not speak but voices around us started to talk.

Voices: "Intruders, leave this forest."
